6. K.O. has the 8PM timeslot...
...he should be doing a fair bit better than anyone else on MSRNC.

As I understand it, 8 and 9PM should draw the most audience.

I've seen spikes in Keith's ratings, but all too often Scarborough at 10PM equals and sometimes even beats him. This is discouraging not only because Scarborough's show is horrible, but the 10PM slot shouldn't be able to challenge the 8PM in ratings all things being equal.

Olberman's ratings are going to have to show further improvement to avoid running the risk of cancellation.

Tucker's show is doomed to failure ofcourse, and that blonde gasbag from Fox may get her own show at 11PM, so I'd anticipate MSRNC shuffling their lineup again sooner rather than later.

8. yes but notice the drop off
msnbc loses almost 1/2 of viewership from countdown to bow-tie boy... that means lil bow tie boy shouldn't count on KO fans hanging around msnbc to boost his ratings...we know real talent when we see it.

13. The drop off is quite interesting...
Having someone perceived as centerleft at 8PM, followed by a rightwinger at 9PM might not be a great idea.

No one on the right will be watching Olberman, they ofcourse will be tuned to O'Reilly on Fox. Does MSRNC really believe this audience is then going to turn the channel after O'Reilly to see Tucker Carlson? The mild mannered, bow tie wearing conservative? Why bother when they can just leave it on Fox and watch Sean the zeolot beat up on the punching bag opposite him. What cable news watching rightwing audience is going to want Tucker when they can have Hannity just by leaving the TV tuned to the same channel?

And how many Countdown fans are really going to want to sit through an hour idiot Carlson? Especially when they know that baffoon Scarborough follows?

It's probably too early to speculate based on just a couple days of ratings, but I'd bet Carlson's show doesn't last even 1 year.

14. obviously not many
countdown fans are hanging around for bow-tie boy. i know many hung around when they ran the repeat of dan abrams (given the discussions of his wardrobe & improvements thereof because of said comments on the KO board). but we're not hanging around for carlson, even with rachel maddow. now if it were rachal as the anchor & carlson as the punching bag, i might hang around for the show. but once keith tosses the paper at the camera, i turn the tv off & go about my business.

2. Glad for Keith but where did you get this?
I doesn't match the Neilson's that I looked at not too long ago.

All the numbers look inflated.

10. How do these numbers relate...
to the numbers we saw a few weeks ago that said that Fox had lost something like 58% of its viewership. I believe they went from 1.5mil to 525,000 or something like that. O'Reilly has 2.7mil? Really?

11. The Fox polls are fixed, IMHO
Every motel lobby and doctor's office I've seen in the past year or so has a tv blaring out Fox crap all day.

I suspect they count those tvs in their viewer stats to get those numbers.

12. Don't think so...
These ratings are usually based on Neilsen ratings based on what "Neilsen families" watch during whatever given period is being measured.

I am fairly sure they don't count motel's and doctor's offices in these sorts of surveys.

I marked up Keith every night and instructed the wife to not report any Fox and try not to listen to their crap.
Cspn of course got my morning ratings.

15. Impressive Jump
IIRC...He was around 300,000 in the last ratings. Most shows have seen declines since the elections, so this is very good news and hopefully keeps him in solid standing with the corporates.

This surely has to frost Tweety's butt. He's long felt this is his network...and had the rating's clout to be the big tuna. Now that dynamic could change. His numbers have been flat for quite a while and lately his shows have gotten real stale. His style has worn out it's welcome...look at how many people on the right hate him as much as on the left. That's ok if you're a "journalist"...not a personality...someone's gotta love ya...and no one's loving Tweety.

Remember, these numbers are just those...numbers. They don't say what the demographic is. I assume these are 18+...meaning everyone. It doesn't break out the key 25-54 demographic that the advertisers are going for. It also doesn't mention the numbers of "homes passed"...or the homes capable of receiving each of these networks.

It'd be interesting if someone could get those home passed numbers and compare Keith's numbers by percentage...number of homes that can see him/330,000 vs. the same for Zahn and O'Reilly. That could be even more impressive.

18. ratings
i can get the 25-54 ratings and vpvh (viewers per viewing household - a statistic of audience composition that gives us a quick look at demo skews) easily enough...not sure i can get the homes passed number (i've never seen it as an option when doing data runs, but it might be buried in there somewhere).

i will say that everyone's crowing about faux news being down whatever percent since the election. that's true - but it's also true of msnbc and cnn. ratings for both cable and network news programming are down pretty much across the board. and i'm pretty sure faux's total audience is still larger than the other two major cable news nets combined.

what can i say, people like to watch crap - and i need only point to another faux property, "american idol" for proof of that (sorry idol fans).

incidentally...and i'm sure someone has said this before...but keith and jon stewart should co-anchor a nightly network news prog - like a warped, funhouse mirror version of huntley and brinkley. that would rock.

19. Here's Another One For Ya
Compare these numbers to the local television ratings of the top 5 markets...NY, LA, Chi, Det, Phil...wanna bet those Faux numbers don't come close to any of the top-rated network affiliates in those markets....and I'd bet the local news on WABC draws double what O'Reilly does.

I've worked with ratings for years. It's fun what you can do to play with 'em...and I know people who made fortunes doing just that.

One last interesting factoid is the rise in prime time network ratings over the same time that there's been a decline in the news channels. The percentages here are also quiet telling.

21. I Used To Play One On Radio...
I recently did a look at the recent radio numbers...comparing AAR and its growth...especially against Salem...a network that operates "The Patriot"...a hate radio network. It was amusing. Not that AAR is burning up the dial, but they're doing well considering the signals they're on...but the Salem stations...on better signals had almost no ratings whatsoever.

Again, I've seen people make fortunes knowing how to manipulate these numbers.

Welcome to DU!
