US media: We tried to warn you!
We did, of course. Many of us who cover the region—along with the CIA and the State Department and the uniformed military—have been warning for at least a year that occupying Iraq would be a dirty, costly, long and dangerous job.
The problem is not really that the public was misinformed by the press before the war, or somehow denied the truth afterward. The problem is that Americans just can’t believe their eyes.

1. I put much of the blame on the media!
They lied, lied, lied and covered up for the unelected resident!

3. I can't
believe this. The media was in the drivers seat in this massacre/war.

5. where were the headlines?
I am still waiting for the headlines. That is when I will start to relax a little bit.

The media is 100% culpable in this entire fiasco. This never, ever, would have happened if the media did their job.

I'm not saying every reporter failed, but certainly the publishers and editors failed.

6. While this is true...
And I know that for a fact because I was a complete supporter of the president's invasion of Iraq, I still believe the defense department is filled with morons. Looking back I wouldn't have supported a war with Iraq unless Paul Wolfowitz resigned.

7. Remember to rate this!
SOME of the media tried to warn us, or else we and the rest of the world couldn't have figured it out-we did believe our eyes.

So props to those who are speaking out now-better late than never.

21. It sure as hell wasn't MSNBC!
The US media worked against us with a fury. The ONLY news that came out was from other independent sources on the internet. Don't let them get away with this shit. They belong on the dock for treason along with the Bush Crime Family...they ARE part of the Bush Crime Family.

15. Care to elaborate?
I mean, there are far too many of us to ever say we were unanimous in anything but things are about what I expected, and posted. Many others did as well. What's bullshit exactly?

11. The Media Knows Dimbo Is Going Down
And are trying to spin themselves out of the mess. Well, its not working on me as I have a shortwave radio and listen to real journalists and honest news.

12. Yep ! we were a " fringe" "focus group"
(heavy on the sarcasm)
I mean what would a group of passionate patriotic caring
American news junkie/ political junkie / history studying
liberal/progressives know anyway ?
(end sarcasm)

I still have a bone to pick with Aaron Brown ,
I specifically warned him of what was going on right
now . Especially about the troops not coming home .
I asked him when would he believe us ?

He did reply with a snotty answer ..Well
I hope he thinks about my warning to him .
And remembers it's never to late to do what is right.

13. riiiiight. I remember all those skeptical and questioning headlines
I remember that farce of a "press conference" just before the war, and the tough question I remember most? "Mr. President, how does your faith get you thru these tough times?" Hardhitting!!. I remember how Colin Powell brought his bogus "evidence" to the UN and boy--the Press were so hard on him!! And just about 2 months ago, for a few days, they were oh so close to calling him a liar for the bogus claims in his SOTU speech! Yeah, I guess we just deluded ourselves into believing the whole rational for this war. Good thing we have our crack press corp rooting out the lies and corruption.

sickeningly bitter sarcasm <off>

17. The very existence of truthout
and its 10 stories every single day proves this point.

But that is the print media, and there are 100,000,000 other stories besides the truthout 10.

And then there is the television, which did not warn us at all. Most Americans get their news, and their entertainment, and their God, from the television. It didn't warn us.

We're not readers, sadly.

20. I just returned from Europe, the contrast in media is boggling!
I was in Zurich and only had three English speaking channels. All were great, yet the contrast between CNN and CNN/International was UNREAL! I loved Christiane Ammanpour's show on Journalism. I was not in my hotel room much but the few minutes here and there surpassed all of the propaganda shown here over the last three years. I need to get a dish!
