The Nazis and the Soviets knew how bad it was and how it would look to the outside world, and they did their best to cover it up and keep it secret. The Bush administration, however, is proud that it's locked up hundreds of persons without charge or recourse, and they are publicly making the case that they can continue to hold all of them indefinitely, even forever if they want to.

Hitler and Stalin at least offered bad excuses that no one believed. The Bushistas just say it out loud and proud: We are above all legal and humanitarian standards.
