Ask Governor Bob Taft to Appoint an Independent Investigator to Investigate Ohio’s "Coingate" Scandal
The fallout from the Ohio “Coingate” scandal, involving Thomas Noe, a rare-coin dealer and Republican financial backer, who is a major player in Ohio politics for years has reached beyond Ohio. Noe is at the center of a major scandal and is under investigation for the loss of up to $13 million worth of rare coins that were part of a dubious $50 million investment by the state workers comp fund he was responsible for managing. Now, Noe is a focus of a federal investigation in his role as a Pioneer for President Bush’s 2004 reelection campaign, responsible for raising at least $100,000 for the President. He is accused of violating federal campaign finance law by reimbursing donors who gave to the President’s campaign committee. While Noe’s beneficiaries are falling over backwards to disassociate themselves from him, Ohioans are waiting answers as to how their tax dollars fell through the cracks.

Given the wide swath of Noe’s influence in a state dominated by the Republican party in all branches of government, the only way that we can get to the truth about how accountability failed at every level is to enlist an independent counsel to investigate these serious allegations.

We the undersigned call on Governor Bob Taft to appoint an independent investigator to get answers to the following questions:

How did state oversight mechanisms fail to discover the questionable actions and obvious conflicts of interest of a major party fundraiser with responsibility for investing state funds?

Why did it take seven years and only after press scrutiny for it to come to light that taxpayer money was being dumped into highly questionable investment funds – rare coin collections considered a dubious investment by public finance experts.

Many in the 2004 election results forum on DU are finding links between Noe, the money, the Bush campaign, and the voting machines - DSM and Coingate should be our main focus! Stay focused and keep this kicked! THANK YOU!

1. Total agreement.
If we can get a wide-ranging investigation which forces these guys to testify, someone will say the wrong thing and allow us to pursue leads almost anywhere.

I would nominate for greatest, but I don't have enough posts yet.

8. Good Idea
Sort of like focusing on Watergate after the 1972 elections to bring down Nixon. Nixon was guilty as hell and so is Bush. After Nixon resigned, we had election reform and the Democrats sweep to victory in '74 and '76. Hopefully history will repeat itself.

The Ohio Republican party could be BushCo's Achilles heel because most Republican politicians in Ohio are dumb as hell. Taft is a good example of stupidity in action. I don't think the Ohio GOP has enough brains to engage in a good cover up.

14. They are definitley combinded
I'm convienced. If you get ipodder download yesterday's show of the Majority report. Sam talked about it. Also last Saturday's BradBlog's show talked about it some I think and Bob Firtakis had a really GREAT interview about the last "election" and gave sooooo much good info. I think if you figure out who was involved in the coin theft then a lot of other stuff will crumble. From following it it appears whoever stole these coins turned them into cash and gave them to the Bush/Cheney re-election team in Ohio and the head of that was Ken Blackwell. Now Blackwell in his office was able to flip the votes all in Bush's favor and make him win, so why would he need all that cash if he knew Bush would win since he was controlling the vote? Also yesterday Sam on the "Majority Report" said one guy who was apart of the group had been making some very weird real estate deals lately.

he's been very good on this subject....brings it up almost every day

I haven't heard him mention the link to the voting machines, though

he should get a headsup on that, cause, if that's true, it really could be the smoking gun

one can only hope

Make sure that he sees all the evidence in Bob Fitrakis' book. It even documents how Blackwell had two-way re-write capability from his office.

Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 05:22 PM by Dover
If not, once again we will get to the voting booth all geared up to make our dissaproval known......for naught.

What is the mechanism necessary to MAKE this runaway administration adhere to the laws, even if we CAN prove they are guilty? That's the problem and that's why they are so brazen with their crimes.

Who's going to make them?
