cnn just now showed a clip of Frist-seems upset saying "I never-NEVER
made a diagnosis on the floor of the Senate and would never do that" He seemed irate-his arm was swinging. Interview was someplace outside.

24. Frist is a liar -- read his website before he erases it
March 17th, 2005

<snip>

When I first heard about the situation facing Terri Schiavo, I immediately wanted to know more about the case from a medical standpoint. I asked myself, just looking at the newspaper reports, is Terri clearly in this diagnosis called persistent vegetative state?

I was interested in it in part because it is a very difficult diagnosis to make and I’ve been in a situation such as this many, many times before as a transplant surgeon. When we do heart transplants and lung transplants, the transplanted organs come from someone who is brain dead and death is clearly defined with a series of standardized clinical exams over a period of time. Brain death is a difficult diagnosis to make and short of brain death, there are stages of incapacitation that go from coma to this persistent vegetative state to a minimally conscious state, and they're a tough diagnosis to make.

Terri Schiavo is right now in a Florida hospice. She is breathing on her own. She's not on a ventilator. She is not a terminal case. She is, as I said, disabled. When her feeding tube is removed, she does not receive food, she starves to death. Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, have been fighting for over ten years to prevent her death. Imagine if you and your spouse, and you had a daughter, and you said, don't let her die. We will take care of her. We will financially take care of her. How in the world can you have somebody come in and remove a feeding tube?

<snip>

~~~~~> Persistent vegetative state, which is what the court has ruled -- I question it. ~~~~~~~~>> I question it based on a review of the video footage which I spent an hour or so looking at last night in my office here in the Capitol. And that footage, to me, depicts something very different than persistent vegetative state. One of the classic textbooks that we use in medicine today is called "Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine." In the 16th edition, which was published just this year, 2005, on page 1625, it reads, "the vegetative state signifies an awake but unresponsive state. These patients have emerged from coma after a period of days or weeks to an unresponsive state in which the eyelids are open, giving the appearance of wakefulness." I'll stop quoting from the classic internal medicine textbook, but one last sentence, "in the closely related, minimally conscious state, the patient may make intermittent, rudimentary vocal and motor responses."
28. He is SUCH a freakin' liar! This is such BS:
I was interested in it in part because it is a very difficult diagnosis to make and I’ve been in a situation such as this many, many times before as a transplant surgeon. When we do heart transplants and lung transplants, the transplanted organs come from someone who is brain dead and death is clearly defined with a series of standardized clinical exams over a period of time.
Since f*cking when, Billy, does the surgeon make the call that the organ donor is brain dead? I mean, I'm no expert here, but aren't surgeons viewed as merely talented mechanics by most doctors? Why would this decision be left up to a surgeon? The organs aren't usually 'harvested' right there at the damn hospital, they're flown or driven in in cold storage from off-site. I don't believe for a second that Prissy Bill had to make such a diagnosis "many many times". He may have transplanted a lot of organs, yes, but I bet he just showed up in the operating room and did what he told.
4. Technically
he didn't make a "diagnosis," but he did offer an "expert medical opinion." Same thing, but that's how they'll spin it. Either way, the man should lose his medical license for unethical behavior because of this. He was in no way qualified to examine Terri, he's a damn cardiologist.
after he pretended to adopt it from the animal shelter
like all the others he killed.
9. I called 800-852-2187
in Tennessee to complain about Frist's "diagnosis" on air. The person who answered the phone said that Tennessee can not do anything because Frist had immunity when he spoke on the Senate floor.
Anyway I explained that the people at the Senior Center were very upset with Frist because so many people have had to face heartbreaking decisions like that one and they don't appreciate Frist politicizing such decisions. I also pointed out that Tom DeLay had made a similar decision about his own father.
Anyway I will get a complaint form in the mail which I will fill out. It can't hurt to register my concern.
15. Kos had part of what Frist said up on his blog yesterday
"Terri Schiavo's autopsy reveals that she was was blind:
Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Jon Thogmartin concluded that...her brain was about half of normal size when she died. ...
Thogmartin says her brain was "profoundly atrophied" - and that the damage was "irreversable." He also says, "The vision centers of her brain were dead" - meaning she was blind.
--------------
Which makes Dr. Frist's expert "diagnosis" all the more outrageous:
Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), a renowned heart surgeon before becoming Senate majority leader, went to the floor late Thursday night for the second time in 12 hours to argue that Florida doctors had erred in saying Terri Schiavo is in a "persistent vegetative state."
"I question it based on a review of the video footage which I spent an hour or so looking at last night in my office," he said in a lengthy speech in which he quoted medical texts and standards. "She certainly seems to respond to visual stimuli."
17. EHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Wrong answer!, Johnny Roll the Video Tape!
One thing for everyone to always keep in mind when dealing with these Liars, if they use "Absolute" (words like Never, always, etc) They can be proven wrong and a Liar.
On a side note: If you are taking a True/False Quiz in school, 99.99% of the time, the questions on the tests that uses "absolute" words ARE FALSE. Keep that in mind, and you will never (or should never) fail a True/False Quiz.
20. Frist is a weak leader
Frist cannot begin to lead his caucus. He has Lott running around trying to undermine him at every juncture. Plus, any time McCain wants to look like a leader, he calls the networks and books all the Sunday tv shows. Frist has no future in politics after he retires in 2006.
29. As Daschle found out
Daschle found out how difficult it is to lead the senate. The real leaders on the democratic side are the old pro's like Kennedy, Dodd, Leahy and Biden. On the repuke side, its McCain, Stevens and Lugar. The leaders position is more of a figure head and it is a very tough job. Now in the House, the speaker can lead with an iron fist -- they have real power. Although Hastert is nothing more than a sock puppet for Delay who is the real power broker in the House.
