Kansas school official calls evolution a "Fairy Tale"
http://www.nbc4.com/education/4606029/detail.html

Morris would have had further comments, but she was busy working on a letter to the Pope asking him to retro-actively excommunicate Copernicus and Galileo; and then she had a meeting of the Flat Earth Society to chair. Seriously, folks, what the fuck is up with Kansas?

1. An "age old" fairy tale.
Apparently 1859 is now "age old."

5. I love fairy tales. Collections of fairy tales fill my bookshelves
And Ms. Morris, Darwin's theory of evolution is not a fairy tale.

By the way, both Origin of Species the King James Bible are also on my bookshelf.

6. People need to wise up
In Darby, Montana the school board wanted to throw in the creationist propaganda. The town responded by immediately electing different school board members. That is what needs to happen. You can't expect to teach children to think in a scientific manner while at the same time belittling Darwin, one of the greatest scientists ever (and a christian I might add).

10. Actually, Kansas threw this woman out once...
the last time she sat on the school board and tried to do this. Can't remember the details, but I think they redrew the district lines, and she got back on the board.

Just an FYI, Darwin started out a Christian, but eventually converted to atheism, he died an atheist. Not that there's a problem with Christianity or anything.

18. Well, to be more precise
you don't "convert" to atheism. Atheism has no creed, no dogma to convert to. You simply stop believing in theism.

12. Ok...so
Evolution describes how normal creatures that we can see with our own eyes and fossils that we can see with our eyes came to be...

The Bible descibes a world of angels, demons, giants, dragons and other hybrid monsters..

And yet...

Evolution is descibed as a fairy-tale..?!

13. Well, evolution is obviously stalled in Kansas.
How long will it be (has it been?) until "Kansan" is synonymous with 'subhuman,' 'cretin,' or 'knuckle-dragger'?? How long will it be until no Kansas high school graduate will be admitted to any accredited college or university? It's truly a new extreme in stupidity that such utterings by an elected official aren't a humiliation to every citizen.

15. Why can't evolution be God's method of creation?
I don't see what all the fuss is about by the religious right....If you believe in God, why can't you believe that his way of creating the world was through evolution?...

16. Fundamentalist = ignorant.
Loudly, proudly, obsessively ignorant.

Fundamentalists of every stripe -- christian, moslem, whatever -- are enemies of America and the Western ideals upon which it was founded.
