ANSWER has had a lot to do with some of the anti-war demonstrations (not the big February 15th UFPJ one though), and a lot of people have criticized ANSWER or IAC or WWP for various things. Which is fine. However - for some of the issues say IAC stands up for, there is *no* alternative to them. I mean, if you want to avoid ANSWER anti-war activities, just go to UFPJ. But IAC does things which there are no other groups for. Armchair liberals will criticize them, but not get off their behinds and form alternative groups or whatnot.
If liberals had been out and anti-war from the start, ANSWER's role would have never been so large. It's like Dean - he provided backbone to the other Democratic candidates (and he's not my favorite, but this is a positive of his). DLC liberals seem to do nothing, yet complain when anyone takes a stand and criticizes them.
So what I have to say about IAC is - they are out there doing work that needs to be done, often alone. The Colombian SINALTRAINAL solidarity for one thing. So I have positive things to say about them, as opposed to the negative things I often here. Despite their faults, they're actually out there doing stuff, and I will always side with a flawed group working to change things as opposed to a group which claims to be pristine because they never do anything except criticize people out there doing things. If these armchair complainers got up and organized more democratic groups to extend solidarity to Colombian workers and so forth, groups like ANSWER and IAC would disappear.
