have a good name for the walmart movie?
Dear activist, colleagues and friends,
We've been public for almost two weeks now, and the response has been spectacular. Over 300 of you have signed up to host screenings all over the world, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and in virtually every state in the union. And thanks to Brad Bowen from the Against*the*Wal Coalition, there is even a screening scheduled for Wal-Mart's hometown of Bentonville Arkansas. THANK YOU!
Now here's another challenge -- the title. Outfoxed came in a breath of genius to my good friend Earl Katz, but usually it is tough going. And more so than usual with Wal-Mart. Let me explain...we were looking for something that framed the story, de-constructed Wal-Mart and drew attention, hence the subtitle -- "The High Cost of Low Price." However, in talking with George Lakoff, he wisely pointed out that people will primarily remember "low price." Furthermore, even after weeks of discussion, when I started looking at the title in print and on the website, it just doesn't look like a movie title. So rather then compound the less then perfect title, back to the drawing board.
And the solution is you. We got the name Brave New Films from John Lipsius in Maryland who entered the contest on my blog. So now it is time to reach out again, and ask all of you to come up with your best titles for the Wal-Mart film. Keep in mind goals...de-construct wal-mart, ala outfoxed, simple and short, and a sense it is a movie, not an ad.
Please post your names in the comments section of my blog here:
http://www.robertgreenwald.org/2005/06/name_that_film.phpThe winner will get a boxed set of Uncovered, Unconstitutional, and Outfoxed that I've got laying around here somewhere...
Thanks for everything you're doing,
Robert Greenwald
P.S. We're still looking for photos and video of communities resisting, and communities affected by Wal-Mart. We've also got a list of abandoned Wal-Marts and need help getting photos and video of that. You can see the list here:
