130. Well that was rather disappointing
just watched it... two men.. don't know names but from Britian saying this is old news and has been looked into and nothing was found wrong (pfft) and an American saying it should be looked into so Americans can know all that lead up to us getting into Iraq... yup, that's the only reason. :eyes:

All the other evidence needs to be brought out and pushed as well... it must be pushed that this is new NEWS because all of this evidence hasn't been available before.

25. Mr Henchey of NY speaking
'this country is facing a critical moment in history"

this is the most flagrant ex of bad leadership and corruption in a democratic republic

we are in a tiny room discussing one of THE most imp issues -- this congress has FAILED completely to oversee this administration

the DSM which says clearly that the admin twisted the facts around the policy. IF this admin did what seems apparent, sought to EXPLOIT Sept 11 to carry out policy against Iraq, and THEN to allege this is the fault of intelligence agencies....what is the impact of that?

What has been the effect on intelligence capability? What were the admin connections with falsification of info

41. Congress failed to keep in check the executive branch....
"If they did seek to exploit the attack on 9/11, to create an attack and war on Iraq. And if they did intentionally then seek to blame the intelligence agency for those failures, when they are responsible for those failures, then it is clear we must uphold the law and undersohereto, force them to be held to account."

42. Good windups here
Now to go on and ask for investigation.

All americans want to believe the president was merely misinformed. But we need to investigate. Asking congress for a formal investigation to see if the president has commited a high crime. All we are asking is an answer to these questions. All we are
asking for is the truth.

If the answers come and all it was was a "Failure of intellegence", so be it. "the united states and the congress deserve to know" "we owe it to the constitution"

a thorough housecleaning is required. Many of the good people have left. If Bolton is confirmed, the rest of the good people will leave. A lack of professionalism. The situation is miserable. Maybe Negroponte will see a choice to tell the truth.

122. Yikes...chill out
It was a reasonable question..I am at work, and couldnt watch for an hour, and when I came back, they were talking about Gitmo, how evil the administration is, etc...they were basically all over the place.

I thought they would lay out a case to the public....cover it in detail, phrase by phrase, etc..., and I havent seen that, so if they have done it, good, I missed it though.

79. Yes, it was addressed very early on.
And has been referred to several times. Their point has been that this is the tip of the iceberg. There is more to it than just the DSM. CSPAN is referring to it as "Downing Street Minutes and Pre-war Intelligence." I think it is important that we recognize the problem goes WAY BEYOND the DSM. I think they have done an admirable job. This is no fuck up.

141. Hey Singular, sort of the same here.
I found the site about 45 minutes in. It's enormously gratifying emotionally, but I'm not sure anyone strengthened the case for a resolution of inquiry, considering what they're up against. Hoping and praying that they did, but I haven't seen the kind of fireworks that would guarantee coverage on the MSM. Liked what Kaptur (sp?) kept pushing about tracking down all the money and the deployments etc. Anyway, good on 'em for doing it.

146. It depends what their goal is, really...
That is something I wasn't clear on, but I think I am now.

That entire hearing was not, in any sense, "official" (with a goal of a resolution coming out of the meeting), rather was intended to ratchet up pressure on the media, and on the president, and I believe it did so splendidly.

This is front page news.

It worked.

167. TALKING POINTS ON DOWNING STREET MINUTES
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/downloads/talkingpoints.pdf

The recent release of the Downing Street Memo provides new and compelling evidence that the President of the United States has been actively engaged in a conspiracy to deceive and mislead the United States Congress and the American people about the basis for going to war against Iraq. If true, such conduct constitutes a High Crime under Article II, Section 4 of the United States Constitution: “The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”

If the evidence revealed by the Downing Street Memo is true, then the President’s submission of his March 18, 2003 letter and report to the United States Congress would violate federal criminal law, including: the federal anti-conspiracy statute, 18 U.S.C. § 371, which makes it a felony “to commit any offense against the
United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose...”; and The False Statements Accountability Act of 1996, 18 U.S.C. § 1001, which makes it a felony to issue knowingly and willfully false statements to the United States Congress

with white tablecloths, an effort to give those temporary tables a more formal or official look.

Being relegated to a small basement room, the forum looked more like it took place at my local VFW and Conyers needed to wrap up before the wedding reception party arrived. (just trying stay lighthearted)

Thankfully, John Conyers has had a ton of experience in these forums lately, culminating in today's event. It was brilliant - he is brilliant.

Conyers took the crumbs Sensenbrenner threw at the Dems and presented a blockbuster.

166. With people apparently beginning to notice the issue, drops in
the polls, and a sufficient number of elected representatives splitting away from the "consensus" lie, it may be the *first* real opportunity to reverse this headlong lurch into fascism, as well as, possibly, the last.

The machinery is there, it just has to be used.

imho.

168. on Today this morning....
Katie "Smiles" Couric stated this morning about the Downing Street Memo that it's accusing Bush...when in fact as we all know this is legit and this isn't some made up document. Couric has an interview with Blair and is trying to pull something out of his ass. So it looks like none of the media are taking this very seriously..like we were going to expect them to in the first place.

169. Associated Press coverage
If you read the Boston Globe , note the severe edit of the story by Associated Press writer, Pete Yost. You'd hardly know it was the same article that appears on the Globe web site. The title in the print version reads "Senior Democrat suggests inquiry into Iraq memo", the title on their web site reads "Democrats urge inquiry on Bush, Iraq. The tone of the edited print article makes the hearing sound like a tea party. When 550,000 people petition the government, I suggest it deserves front page full coverage, not a note on page A15.
