Ahhnold's "alma mater".. Just how DID he go to college?

His bio seems to play up the fact that he arrived here, POOR at age 19, and became a world class body builder.. He apparently crashed at other people's homes while he established himself..

Surely, once he was on the bodybuilding circuit and then a film actor, his time for school was a bit "constrained"...be that as it may, did HE as an IMMIGRANT..NON-US CITIZEN get STATE AID to go to college??? anyone know??

This is the same aid that he is trying desperately to cut off...and especially to the "immigrants" who study hard and try to better themselves and contribute to society, as educated people..


Has anyone ever asked for details of Ahhhnold's college days??

1. Santa Monica College (community college)

A good one at that, but still not exactly a university. He could have taken night Business classes and qualified for an AA degree (it's only a 2-year school).

3. He got an MBA also, so I read in a bio someplace.

On edit I went to SMC too. Yes, their business courses are good and enabled me to work at low paying secretarial and bookkeeping jobs all my life. But that wasn't their fault. It was the system in the early sixties.

2. It was a diploma mill in the midwest.

Either Wisconsin or Minnesota. I can't remember off hand. Although they called it a correspondence course. If I can find it in my Arnold stuff, I'll post it.

7. Poor? Not Quite

He came here after winning Mr. Gropinator in Europe for several years...and he came from a middle class home. Poor. Yeah, just like he's faithful and never used steroids.

Yep...that's a Community College...and one hell of a nice place to pick up wimmen, too.

By the time Ahnuld had gotten to LA, he was starting to make good money and why he'd bother to go to even a JC makes little sense (other than the wimmen)...plus there was always the porn movie biz.

OTOH...for many immigrants, Community Colleges are a valuable gateway to doing well. There's a lady in our area from El Salvador. She arrived illegally in the late 80's (a victim of the right wing death squads) who enrolled in a hotel/motel program at the local Community College. She's now a successful manager and does a lot in the community. She always credits the local school district and community college with giving her the confidence to go for something more than being a domestic.

I don't know if the residency requirements have changed, but when I last took a course once you'd lived in CA a year, you qualified for most any program, the only exception being one reserved for the top ??% of CA high school grads. Besides, the cash rate for classes at CA community colleges is still pretty low and was much lower back then, it's the books that are brutal.

11. SMC used to be free except for books, lab fees and $7.50

a semester for Student Union Fees. They started charging tuition a couple of decades back. Too bad. It was the only way many poor students could start their college education, or learn a trade like I did.

12. We paid $750 tuition+ $300 labs and $400 for chemistry books

for ONE summer class for our son.. at UCR.. He did not want to take in it high school his senior year, so he went to UCR to take it during the summer.. When he sold his books back, he got $25..:grr:
