Being an enlightened, educated, open minded human is a motherf***er

All of us who see the world beyond the theocratic, neo-con, fundie and jingoistic messages being blared at the sheeple 24/7 are being demonized by a small, but very powerful, group.

They are taking advantage of our willingness to engage in Socratic debate and give the benefit of the doubt.

They are bullies, demanding total acquiescence. Yet, we outnumber them two to one.

They fear change and anyone who isn't exactly like them.

They can be defeated. However, we must accept their existence and the fact that they will never be willing to consider any other point of view but their own.

I, personally, am ready to battle this group, and those in power who exploit their ignorance for their own profit.

But, damn, it's exhausting to fight ignorance and apathy. And the ignorant and apathetic seem to have boundless energy, since they don't have to waste any effort on actually thinking.

So, fellow soldiers in the fight for the truth against the most unbelievable idiocy that passes for honest investigation and debate...

no matter how much s**t we have to put up with (and we put up with boatloads of it) human history tells us we are on the right side.

That's my rant and I'm sticking to it! MKJ

some days i go to my bed wishing i was dumb, it would be so much easier. i been fighting the good fight since nixon, and Jesus, i am tired! today has been exhausting, but i am so thankful for the fight we witnessed today. im thinking we should all be prepared to answer that (you know it's coming) call to action.

7. It's hard work being on the side of truth...simple slogans and

absolute beliefs sustain the other side. We are forced to actually validate and support our arguments.

Eventually, the truth wins out. Until then, we will get exhausted while our opponents sleep at night comfortable in the belief they are doing God's work or have absolute wealth and power.

I was a pre teen when Nixon was re elected and I thank you for fighting the good fight then. I guess the good fight is never done. MKJ

9. I have to laugh. My Mom always told me "It's easier to be stupid".

She was right, I suppose. But I attribute republican ignorance more to a failure of the imagination than to outright stupidity. As I've said here before, I know any number of good, honest and kind people - who voted for George W. Bush. I like some of these folks, but we're not alike, not by a long shot. I know it sounds awful, but it seems as though some people are lacking in a certain dimension, like they're missing a gene or something. They honestly are not able to empathize with the suffering, or understand that the meaning of life involves something other than sex, food and shelter. And I say this with compassion! It's a sort of deficit disorder which affects approximately 51% of the American population :) And it'd be kind of cute if it weren't so incredibly destructive and at times even evil.

we will eventually emerge as the winners of the hearts and minds of the majority of our countrymen.

The truth always wins, however, the fight to get the truth recognized by the majority of the people is exhausting, at times.

The fact that you are not taking the easy way out but are, instead, wanting to push back against the ignorance and apathy that defines a third of our citizens, is inspirational.
