Bombings in Iran???
Six bombs have exploded in Iran, killing at least 10 people, days before the presidential election.

Four blasts targeted public buildings in the south-western city of Ahwaz, killing at least eight people and wounding more than 70 others.

Hours later, a bomb exploded in the capital Tehran, killing two people. Three other bombs were defused.

Bombings have been rare in Iran since the war with Iraq ended in 1988. No group has claimed responsibility.

No one has taken responsibility????????????????????????

1. Most Likely, Ma'am
These are the work of People's Mujahideen. This group is doubtless receiving covert assistance from the U.S. at this time, but it is unlikely U.S. personnel are carrying out the actual placement and detonation. Success at that is far more readily achieved with native personnel, and these have their own long-standing motivation for carrying out such acts, and a record of it to boot.

14. Very possible.
There is a good chance that it is those who receive the covert assistance. There is always a possibility that it is those who provide that same assistance. That would, by definition, make the explosions part of that covert assistance.

16. Very true. I work with a man who was Afghani Muhajideen in the 80s.
The U.S. smuggled arms into Afghanistan through Pakistan during those years. His family base is Kandahar. The logistics line was from the border region with Pakistan, then to Kandahar, onward to points of engagement with the Soviet military. This practice honed the U.S.'s skills in moving arms through hostile territory, through allies who would have been, in other circumstances, hostile to the U.S. itself. The method is quite simple indeed. Especially if there is money to grease the curcuit path.

2. It's some type of resistance group funded by the Bush Regime or
it's U.S. Special Forces, sadly. There were a couple of story's out right before the bombings of Condi talking of funding 'oposition groups to the Iranian Government. I had a bad feeling then .... Peace.

4. It's them again...
It's those stupid treasonous hags in PNAC......Now that they know we're going to lynch them, they are beginning to accelerate their plans viciously and try to throw the whole thing into chaos before the end.

5. Iran blames US-backed Arab separatists for pre-vote bombings
snip:

Top national security official Ali Agha Mohammadi told AFP late Sunday that the attackers "infiltrated Iran from the region of Basra" in southern Iraq.

"These terrorists have been trained under the umbrella of the Americans in Iraq," he charged, adding that Iran suspected British troops across the border might also have links to the separatist group.

Iran's main armed opposition group, the People's Mujahedeen, is based across the border in Iraq, and Mohammadi said he believed it was involved in some of Sunday's attacks.

20. Inciting conflict and creating chaos is how the war-mongers operate.
They are stirring up the hornets nest on purpose. It weakens the targets.

6. There's Plenty Of Friction In Iran Without Us
Not that I don't think the CIA is crawling all over that country and they'd love to screw with the elections, there's plenty of problems inside Iran that we're just getting wind of. Unfortunately there's been a nearly 20 year void of real news from that country...and many changes have taken place. There's a cultural revolution/divide there that rivals what happened here in the 60's and various factions that have been protesting the government. Just like in Iraq, some of these groups are boycotting...and a great way to keep your people...or any people...aay form the polls is to scare the shit out of them. Bombs work nicely.

What got to me today was hearing Bunnypants pooh-pooh this election stating it was not really an election...the leaders are still self-chosen dictators. Uh, your assholiness sir, isn't that what you're supporting in Iraq and Saudi Arabia? How no one in the corporate media could let that one go by without even a mention shows how poor things have gotten.

Cheers!

10. Iran, Ma'am, Will Not Attacked In The Next Fortnight
If it is invaded, it will be next autumn: all such actions by the criminals of the '00 Coup are timed for maximum impact on the electoral process here....

11. Ritter didn't say that Iran would be invaded in June, only that the....
...operation would begin in June. Remember how we had Special Forces in Iraq about a month or two before "shock and Awe" began?

12. No, what he said was
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 05:00 AM by lala_rawraw
1). "What I said was that the President, in October of 2004, had been briefed by the Pentagon. In preparation to have in place by June 2005 a viable military option. This was in response to instructions by the President that the US must be prepared to implement the next phase of its Iran policy or strategy; the first phase of course being the pursuit of the so called diplomatic option-in other words allowing the European Union to carry out its outreach program."

2). "What is happening is that in June, the U.S. will walk away from Europe with regard to their outreach in Iran. If the situation is not resolved by June, the US will shift its policy and methodology. Now this is not speculation on my part. This has been stated. Then will seek to impose robust sanctions against Iran."

----

My point in the original comment I made was that simply we are in mid-June now, so we are clearly in a "phase" of sorts, not in attack mode fully or obviously.

edit: forgot quote marks.

13. The plan has been delayed
by the Democrat "filibustering" of Bolton's appointment. How furious do you think the neo-cons are by now? The "party of no" impeding their devious scheme, how dare they.

9. You could be right, but...
I'm not discounting anything with bush and his minions. While I know there are many complexities involved it seems to me the shrub regime would like nothing more than to see a destabilized Iran.

17. from lbn: UK arrests anti-Iranian Terrorists
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1556916

i posted this bbc news story about anti-iranian terrorists being arrested in London and then noticed this thread..

"Police made the raids as part of a long-running operation involving MI5, that is targeted at a dissident group opposed to the government in Iran.

The men are not thought to be connected to al-Qaeda, nor planning terrorist attacks in the UK, said BBC home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw. "

could this be a way to shake up the social stability in Iran? A "softening up" strategy if you will?
