You see, the very well documented chain of events in 2001, involving US efforts to pressure the Taliban into allowing Unocal Oil to build a pipeline across Afghanistan into Pakistan (and thence to India and Enron's failing power plant project there, a plant that had turned into a disastrous investment because it lacked a source of natural gas), would all be contradicted by assuming that Bush actually "did it" himself as a "Reichstag Fire" type of plot.

The french authors of Bin Laden, the real truth, I think thats the title, have it all sewn up. In spring of 2001 we were using a carrot and stick approach on the Taliban (giving $40 million in aid, but also a threat, according to reports US officials, some time around June, actually told the Taliban that we would turn their country into a parking lot.

This ultimatum probably provoked the final "go" from Bin Laden to do the hijacking operation.

Even before 9/11 there were statements and reports about Bush and his advisors that indicated the nature of their fatal flaw. They were ideologically biased against believing that Bin Laden wcould ever be a real threat to the US.

Condi and Rummy had this ideological focus on what they call "state sponsored terrorism." They simply did not beleive that a terrorist group that did not have heavy support from a government could pose a real threat. Thats why Bush made the glib reference to Clinton's efforts to take out Bin Laden: "Sent a $40 million missile to blow up a camel." That was during the campaign; Bush, for ideological reasons and because Condi Rice, his mentor on such matters, is a fucking moron, simply could not and did not believe that a terrorist group could harm us without supprot from Iraq or one of the other "axis of evil" states.


Bush was certainly guilty of corruption, stupidity, complaisance. But did he do it? Not likely.

PNAC group realized that they had a golden opportunity to carry it out themselves and pin the whole thing on Arab Terrorists. That is the most likely scenario.And Cheney, the puppetmaster, orchestrated it with his cover story about the Energy Task Force.The DSM shows that these people have no qualms about sacrificing American or any other lives to complete their agenda.
