And having kids made me more liberal than I ever was before. Having kids cracked my heart wide open. Every dead and wounded soldier, I think that is someone's baby. Every picture and report of Iraqi civilian deaths, I superimpose my own children. And I think, is it worth it? How would I feel if those were my dead babies. When you start thinking in terms of losing your own kids, it puts the bar really high on what is worth it.

You know that sort of has a ring to it.

Conyers is a veteran of many battles, he's like an old scarred cat. If you look closely at his face, you can see the old battles etched on his face as wrinkles of integrity. This DSM deal is only the latest in Conyers efforts to have our country do the right thing. Doing the right thing is important.

Something else, when I look at his picture, I see a man first. A man that just happens to be black, actually sort of a light chocolate colored. This is important because we have to begin to view the blacks within our country as men and women first, with certain attributes later. Until we Americans can begin to see others in this way, then we will continue to be manipulated by those that attempt to dominate us by having us separated by race, at odds with each other. And Conyers is just the man to bring our country to sanity, to heal us, and help us to see each other as people first and not be quick to place others in boxes with names like "black" or whatever and then make a judgment on them because of something dumb, like the box we have placed them in. The amount of melanin in our skin has nothing whatsoever to do with who we are.

He's very smart too. To survive politics in Detroit, you have to be smart. Talk about a hostile environment, it doesn't get much more hostile than Detroit.

I think its time we elected an African-American for our president. I think our country is ready to make this step. It will be decisive, but oftentimes it is best to lance a festering sore directly, so the poison can be released. When the issue becomes decisive, then people will look within themselves and see things they thought were not there. We will be better off as a people when we do this. This can be a legacy our generation, we boomers, can leave our children. We fought the battles in the 60-70's and we can finish this battle today and put all of that stuff behind, into the past.

Now as for Clark, look at his record in the military. This guy is outstanding. He is the best IMO that our military can produce. He knows the MIC intimately and how closely the complex is embedded within our government.

I doubt we can eliminate the MIC, but I think we can control it, if we have somebody on top that knows how to give them a smack down from time to time.

Like Conyers, Clark is also a man of high integrity. I don't know how to measure this illusive quality, but when I see it, I know its there.

Clark is also smart, a graduate of the finest schools this country has. He's been groomed to be a leader, we should use him like he has been trained.

I can support a Conyers/Clark ticket in 2008.

As for the race thing, I grew up in New Orleans and lived in Brasil, so I'm ready for the rest of the USA to get their act together. I say we elect a "black" man (woman would be great too, like Barbara Lee or Sheila Jackson Lee) just BECAUSE he is "black." Of course (s)he has to have all the other qualifications for presidency, as do folks like John Conyers, Wes Clark, Al Gore etc., but we must address race and racism in America NOW. A "black" president will PROVE once and for all that all humans are equal, despite size, color, intelligence, gender.
