I'm very impressed by the black Congesspeople at the DSM hearing
I got to see the CSPAN rerun tonight, and putting faces with
the names was enlightening.

These people had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get to
Congress. And gutsy. Both were on display in holding "informal"
hearings in which the President was repeatedly called a liar,
in which there were calls for impeachment.

Perhaps these people have the experience how to defeat the
GOP you-are-nonexistent-scum treatment better than the white
Dems who are spluttering.

Whatever it is, my hat is off to these brave, intelligent, and
gutsy people. The DLC Dems didn't back them on the Florida
or Ohio dis-enfranchisements, and they still try to save democracy
in this sad, increasingly bigoted and stupid country.

Again, the blacks have a lot of experience dealing with bigoted,
stupid bullies. We should start paying attention to how they do
it.

1. I second that
They truly are brave and intelligent and very ballsy. My favorite was Represenitive Waters.

4. The CBC were the ONLY ONES...
...who stood up against the appointment of bu$h in 2000/2001 when the ec votes were counted. They objected but not ONE Senator stood with them.

NOT ONE.

I have been disgusted and ashamed of our Democratic senators since that day. The CBC are the epitome of what it means to do your civic duty, to stand up for your country and to be a true patriot. Sadly, there seem to be pissy few others up there who have any clue about any of those things, least of all the beadey-eyed one in the Oval Office.

5. Yes. Civic Duty. There's a phrase I hadn't heard in years.
It takes the CBC and Joe Wilson to remind us that, in this
ludicrously leveraged consumer debt economy, we have
a Civic Duty.

6. Black folks have always been
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 10:57 PM by FrenchieCat
the "front line soldiers"....literally!

They have never been afraid of stepping the lyon's Den....or doing whatever it takes.

While some politicians worry and run polls to make decision, Black folks just do what they've got to do.

As a Black Folk myself, I am also very proud to see Barbara Lee and Charlie Rangel and the others taking care of business.

That's why MLK's quote has always been most apropos in that it rang true to him and to many others who don't wait to test the temperature...but rather knock the door down and go to the rescue!

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.--Martin Luther King Jr.--1963

10. I've noticed that. Some of those pussyfooting white folks up there
could use some civics lessons...damn spineless self-serving boobs!

Thanks for that quote, too. I'm gonna add it to my 'quotes' file. I've got a few MLK ones in there I think, but not that one.

7. The CBC...
has been carrying serious water for the Dems and the country since Bush was installed. I have been so thankful for the hard work they have done, and continue to do, for us all.
