KS anti-evolutionist calls liberals 'vindictive'

This is the same state board of ed member who called evolution a 'fairy tale' earlier this week. Now she goes to a conference on magnet schools and the taxpayers pay for it. Here's the rub: there are NO magnet schools in KS and no plans to implement any. We can't pay for the schools we do have.

Ed board members question colleague's trip to Florida convention

A member of the Kansas Board of Education who has been a staunch proponent of holding the line on school spending is under fire for asking taxpayers to pay thousands of dollars for an April conference she attended in Florida.

Some of her fellow board members say Connie Morris' six-day trip for a conference on magnet schools was a waste of money. Critics also questioned the need for Morris to attend the conference, because there isn't much demand for magnet schools in her sprawling 5th District in western Kansas.

But Morris, one of the board's most outspoken conservatives who has frequently clashed during meetings with members of the moderate minority, on Friday called criticism of her trip to the Magnet Schools of America conference "sleazy."

"I think it is a combination of the emotions around evolution as well as the newsletter I sent out," Morris said. "The liberals aren't accustomed to criticism, and they were stinging from my exposure of their behavior. Their response is vindictive.
