My take on Wesley Clark and Fox
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 10:58 AM by liberaliraqvet26
This has been a hot topic here this week. I understand why some have reservations about it but realistically, Fox whether we like it or not has a lot of viewers. How does it hurt to have a credible, southern, clean cut, career military man who has a near perfect service record representing our side. Even though it is hostile ground I just cannot see how this hurts us. On fox they like to portray all liberals as leftover 60's hippie freaks, Clark's appearances are great because he is well respected throughout the country and defies this stereotype. Can you imagine how stupid the chickenhawks like Krauthammer, Hume, Barnes, Hannity and Pearle will look arguing military strategy with a four star general who ran the highly successful Kosovo operation with so few casulties. Many moderates and independents buy into the stigma that Dems are soft on national security and bad for the military. Even as bad as the recent polls have been for the rethugs they still have us beat in this area. Clark can put a democratic face on the military.

Fox unfortunatly is here to stay and we must do all we can to counter their spin. Wesley Clark is a smart man who can certainly hold his own against these kooks. Who else is better qualified to be our trojan horse?

3. I just hope he knows what he is doing.
I would hate for him to become the Alan Holmes of Faux. I believe Clark to be 200% the speaker and debater that Holmes is but just saying that Clark is part of Fox gives me chills. I hope it works out well and I see and understand what you are saying.

4. Agree 100%. I could not believe the narrow minded bashing..
that has gone on this past week. People who think Clark would in any way betray us Democrats, have not really been paying attention. Tsk tsk.

Its either the same small group of haters that called Wes a butcher and war criminal way back in 2003 or, one of a small cadre of newbies who have recently signed up for the same purpose.

It terrifies them that Clark is on Faux because they feel their grip on power slipping away and they know their heros Hume and Hannity can't possibly stand up to him.

5. I disagree entirely.
I'd rather have Fox just keep losing viewership until it goes bankrupt, even by the mindless freepers who are loyal to it. They'll move on to backyard barbecues and whatever else and I'd rather see Fox completely gone, then have any chance of credability by using Clark or someone else to make it up.

Media Matters said it best.

7. All fox viewers are not freepers...
if he was writing a column for Newsmax or doing commentary on Limpballs show id agree with you. Fox has broad viewership amung Independents and moderates.

12. Most of its viewers ARE freepers...
And if we compare the fox news viewership to something conventional like C-SPAN, CBS or even many radio stations AAR etc. it is absolutely abysmal and continues to fall.

Being in first place doesn't strengthen its case.....And clark adds unneccesary false credability as mediamatters points out.

10. Fox is still in first place.
They have lost a lot of viewers but so have all the other networks. Fox still remains in first place ahead of CNN sad as that may seem.

11. Republicans like to use Kosovo
as quid pro quo for why Bush is justified for going into Iraq. I have heard them say "Well, Clinton went into Kosovo..." Watch they will use this strategy with Clark.

- Kosovo was not a full scale invasion

- We did not loot the country for oil

- We actually had broad international support

- It was well planned and went smoothly without loss of American servicemen and few civilian casulties (it actually saved lives)

- It did not drain our treasury or our military

- These countries actually now are picking up economically and socially and have respected "not puppet" funcioning governments

- Halliburton didn't make the rules (they worked for the military as opposed to now that the military works for them)

- It wasn't planned by neocon chickenhawks

13. I agree.
and I thank General Clark for his service. It takes a brave man to do what he's doing.
As for waiting to Faux to die, I don't think we can afford it. Their viewership is going down, but they still have a lot of devoted viewers, some of whom don't know they're being lied to because they don't read and they don't use the internet.
But they do vote.
Our best bet is to have a voice, and I think the General is a good start.
Godspeed General. I'll stand with you unless/until you give me a reason not to.

15. I agree
I wonder how many repukes will quit watching because they won't like what they hear from Clark? We may be seeing the beginning of the end of the rabid right Fox. I'll bet the veins in Hannity's forehead are ready to explode.

16. He was so totally
not right wing republican the other night I wonder if they will keep him on. I think he did great. Also, I have a lot of right wing coworkers and they are very impressed by him. Expect strange bedfellow in the days ahead.

If a politician doesn't really piss you off part of the time then there's a problem. Politics is all about compromise--we haven't had much compromise recently--

19. Being a regular, unpaid guest is one thing. Taking a check is another.
I don't know of one employee of Fox, from Mara Liason down to Bill O'Reilly, who isn't compromised by having a financial relationship with Fox.

Of course, Clark might buck the trend.

However. I think it's important for DU'ers to hold Clark to a high standard -- to let him know that he's starting off with a strong presumption against himself -- because this will encourage him to treat his appearances on Fox like he has to prove to liberals that he isn't compromised.

Every night he goes on Fox, he should act like he's trying to get fired for having a liberal bias.

He can argue like he is trying to get fired. If they fire him FOX will look very bad.

Even with Clark, I don't consider Fox a channel that I will watch for news. :puke:
If Clark can make an impact, then more power to him.

24. I'd rather see their programming & channel die because of lack
of interest and boredome that results from a whole news channel devoted to parroting WH policy.
