Poll question: PROPS to your favorite Progressive!
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 11:58 AM by UdoKier
This is not a popularity poll, as much as a way to give a shout-out to someone you think is doing great things for democracy!

I can only fit 10, so feel free to tack on shout-outs to anyone who's deserving - local leaders in particular!

Please, no negative stuff about anybody. There are plenty of other threads for that.

1. Bernie Sanders
Who has sat in Congress and told it like it was since the Reagan administration. I don't know by what stretch of the imagination John Kerry is a progressive but whatever.

3. The first post and already negative stuff?
Look, I'm as big a critic of Kerry as anybody, but there are people who are firmly behind him and his way of doing things, and this is a thread to cheerlead whoever you want.

For just this one thread, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

2. JC is always consistent, never gives up
and never recoils from neocon attacks. If all others in the poll acted like JC, we would be well on our way to crushing the neocon insurgency.

4. Let's hear it for all those wonderful people staging events for Pink Slip
:applause: :yourock: :applause:

And all the Freeway Bloggers out there who are 'takin it to the streets'

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

The staffers who do the work behind the scenes for the Congressmen and Congresswomen who are standing up for Americans!

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

The average American who turns off MSM long enough to get the rest of the story and then writes LTTE to share what they learned with neighbors.

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

The elderly, who really have no stake in changes to SS but are fighting cuz they know the junta is trying to sell their grandkids junk bonds with a very big price tag

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

The librarians who stood their ground against Ashcroft and the Patriot Act, finding ways to warn patrons that Big Brother was watching (and tracking) what they read, even when Big Brother tried to tie their hands

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

Parents who are proactive and sign the required forms to keep schools from turning over their kids' contact info to military recruiters

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

The people who register voters, work at polling places and bust their humps to expose the fraud of recent elections

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

The millions of everyday working Americans who are asking questions, sending messages, spreading the word and the resources, raising decent kids and being good neighbors, the ones with REAL family values who walk the walk and deserve government that does not let corporations write the laws and set the policy

:applause: :yourock: :applause:

Anybody can be a Patriot. A hero is really just a normal person who faced up to tough tasks. Time for the real patriots & heroes to take it all back from the frauds wrapped in flags and holding crosses like scepters.

6. Howard Dean over Kucinich?
Yowza. Last I heard Dean wants us to stay in Iraq and Kucinich was presenting legislation to get us out.

7. Give your props. No negative shit.
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 12:38 PM by UdoKier
National prominence was a factor in these choices. I'm not endorsing them by including them.

Cheer on Kucinich. Spam the thread with a bunch of kudos for him for all I care, but skip the negative stuff FOR ONE LOUSY THREAD. Are the words "no negative crap please" so hard to understand?

Relax! I've never been accused of "negative shit" before in my life - Me thinks one is being a tad too sensitive. I thought expressing our opinions was encouraged here!

9. No doubt, John Conyers is the man this week.
In this case, I have no problem voting for him over Howard Dean.

12. John Conyers is a great hero! but I had to vote for
Michael Moore- his web site is still really awsome! The Downing St. Memos reinforce a lot of what he said in the movie. (also I just watched a clip from BBC on the Palast site) He has been the target of so much fear and loathing by the BushInc.
We have many great heros!!! I also adore Greg Palast, and Robert Parry consortiumnews.com, robert Koehler- 'Silent Scream of Numbers'-Jim Lampley- 'Biggest Story of Our Lives', and so many more.
We are all going to be heros this July 4th right -when we are all going to be doing our Patriotic thing! the truth is busting out in June and we are going to build on these thruths so vital to our democracy, and celebrate that truth on July 4th! Wherever we are!!!<http://www.democrats.com/node/5050>

15. Well, my favorite progressive seems to change with whomever happens
to be doing the most at a given time. :) I continue to appreciate past efforts by others, however.

Right now, John Conyers is my fucking hero. :) So there.

16. Bill Moyers
For taking on the job of exposing the neocon takeover of PBS and for explaining that he can wear a flag in his lapel. The flag belongs to all of us and is not a prop to be used by those who actually work to subvert Truth, Justice and the American Way.

Bill Moyers is a great and honest progressive who knows democracy is served by a free and diligent press.

17. John Conyers is a great guy but he's basically the "Flavor of the Week"
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 09:38 PM by Rowdyboy
at DU because of the DSM hearings. For day to day trench warfare, slugging it out with the right, fighting the good fight and generally kicking ass Charlie Rangel is my man!

Ya'll all give John Conyers his due. He deserves it. But Charlie Rangel has fought harder for you and all of us than anyone else on that list.

20. Isn't it sad that Ralph Nader's actions have cost him a place in this poll
Once upon a time he would have been my first choice. Today, he wouldn't make the top 20.
