Congresswoman Slaughter asked that I post this. She already posted about it on DailyKos earlier this morning.
It is time to take up a second front in our efforts to bring some common sense to our foreign policy. I will continue my efforts to bring a Truman Commission (www.votelouise.com/iraq) to Iraq and audit every penny that has been or is being spent there but I believe it is now time for even bolder action.
Iraq now has a Democratic government.
More than 1700 U.S. & Coalition troops have died. More than 20,000, perhaps more than 100,000, civilians have died. More than 15,000 U.S. troops have been maimed or wounded. More than 70,000 of our National Guardsmen and Reservists have been kept in Iraq, away from their families and jobs for an extended period of time. Of the nearly 245,000 veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, almost 12,500 have been to VA counseling centers for readjustment problems and symptoms of PTSD.
These numbers continue to soar, and what for? Enough is Enough.
Please join me in supporting the bipartisan legislation that calls on President Bush to set a plan for phasing-out the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq by handing over the reconstruction to other more capable entities.

It is time to bring our men & women in uniform home to their families.
