(Jeb) Bush Signs Fla. Wine-To-Go Bill Into Law
Bush Signs Fla. Wine-To-Go Bill Into Law

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The pressure will soon be off to finish that $250 bottle of wine while still at the restaurant and risk driving home tipsy.

Under a bill signed Friday by Gov. Jeb Bush, restaurant patrons will be able to take home unfinished bottles of wine starting July 1.

The bill's sponsor, Sen. Jim King, R-Jacksonville, had touted the bill as one that would discourage over consumption by people reluctant to waste good, expensive wine.

Individual restaurants will be able to decide whether to provide the service.

The measure (SB 1114) allows patrons to take home one unsealed bottle of wine for consumption if they have purchased a full-course meal including a salad or vegetable, entree, and bread and consumed some of the wine with the meal.

2. Who can afford to drink $250 bottles of wine?
With the Bush economy, most people can barely afford to eat out in places where the wine comes from a box.

5. You mean regular people can barely afford to drink wine
from a box. The Bushes and Cheneys and Forbes all got alot richer over the last few years, thanks to DimSon's tax cuts for the rich and abandoned regulation of business and industry. They have no problem paying for that expensive bottle of wine at dinner. I'm surprised they care whether it has been finished off or not.

Why don't they just call a cab if they've had that much to drink. It would seem that they can afford it.

Mind boggling, isn't it? My husband spends that kind of money on clothes for work every five years or so.

8. I love a glass of wine out - but I can no longer afford a $5 glass
of house wine that probably comes from a box....can seldom eat out as it is. During the Clinton years, I could pop for the Chianti at $8, and would eat out more often too.

The kind of restaurants that sell $250 bottles of wine, probably charge $40 for an entree. So, they are getting richer....but hey...at least they leave a few bucks for the waiter and valet. I guess this is what they mean by trickle down?

11. I know, 25, it's so frustrating.
Real wages going down, prices going up. You know the "little guys" are in trouble when WalMart decides to try and market to a more upscale clientele since the working joes don't have any disposable income.

9. This will go really well
with Florida's "Shoot Because Someone Pisses You Off" law. Way to go Jebbie! It's hard work being governor isn't it?

4. Am I reading into this or is this loon purposefully creating chaos?
He's going to make it legal for drunk drivers to run all over the roads?!?!?

Would that not be letting people kill eachother off on purpose? Isn't that basically pre-emptive murder, in a way? Enforcing the law to allow all drunks to drive.......It just boggles the mind!

6. They think it will prevent drinking and driving because
you can take your bottle home to drink.

10. Naw, you're missing what's meant by that law.
If you order a bottle of wine with dinner, and drink one glass each, half of the bottle is still left. You can take it home with you instead of feeling like you have to finish it while there at the restaurant or leave it to be thrown away.

I doubt it only applies to $250 bottles. It's been a long time since I bought a bottle of wine at dinner, but it always was under $20.
