One bit of twisted logic I wish the media would put to bed

Is the whole "the insurgents are getting desperate!" every time a significant loss of life among our soldiers is announced. By this logic a day with no deaths at all would be beyond tragic, since the insurgency is showing no signs of desperation, whereas days wherein a few dozen soldiers die are clearly hopeful evidence of desperate dead-enders' "last throes." A brief spike in deaths would be one thing, but the important thing is that the losses have been steadily increasing year after year. I wince every time I see a spokesperson for the Pentagon or the administration get away with this line.
