Poll question: Do you support the retrying of Edgar Ray Killen?
I can't believe I've seen people on here saying it shouldn't happen just because it was 40 years ago. Better late than never. Should we just let the Klan scumbag off because of a lousy jury 40 years ago?

1. Yes. Of course.
I wish the prosecution was better prepared.

6. I'm honestly stunned to discover that two people on that thread would

defend that POS scum. I suppose open registration allow for assholes to play too. Thank God its only two or three posters. They make my skin crawl, and I live in Mississippi about 45 miles from the trial!

8. Hey, Rowdy, that thread amazed me also. But
different strokes...I could get really crass but won't. I feel your pain. Stunned is the word.

9. Even though I was a 10 year old child when these murders happened
I carry a shame because my state allowed this nightmare to occur and allowed the guilty to go unpunished. I've lived most of my life embarrassed to admit my home-state because of sick, twisted bigots like this old fraud and I resent it. I should be proud to say I'm from the state of Eudora Welty, Ellen Goodman, and William Faulkner. Instead, I'm forced to spend part of my life apologizing for actions that I consider abominable-nauseating and inhuman.

I hope Edgar Killen dies in jail, surrounded by hostile strangers, unloved, uncared for, miserable and alone. Its a better fate than his victims enjoyed.

4. In a way, it's more important that he is convicted than that he serve time
He's an old fart who will probably keel over soon anyway.

I guess the families involved should have a say in his punishment, but for the rest of us, it's probably enough that the South acknowledges his, and their, sin.

10. But isn't this double jeapordy?
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 11:57 PM by UdoKier
Being twice for the same crime?

I thought that was a no-no...

PS - I don't have an opinion on this - I know very little about the case.

12. Like I said, I don't know much about it.
I thought maybe he was acquitted. If he's guilty, I hope he gets put away.

13. I don't know much myself...
...but it seems like I heard that it was a hung jury initially. If he had been outright acquitted before, they could not have brought him to trial again.
