Army Reserve enlistee posts a contest "Create a pig with a Koran"
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 02:15 AM by Rowdyboy
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Military officials and Muslim leaders in Syracuse aren't amused by an Army Reserve recruit's Web contest called "Create a Pig With the Koran."

The contest devised by Jon Alvarez involves using pages from the Muslim holy book to create papier-mache pigs. The Muslim religion forbids followers from consuming pork. His Web site also gives links showing how to get a free copy of the Quran and how to make papier-mache.

Alvarez says the contest illustrates the hypocrisy of Muslim extremists who burn the American flag and condemn Americans for the supposed desecration of the Quran at Guantanamo Bay. advertisement

An officer with the Army Reserve's 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion says the contest "shows poor taste" and will be discussed with Alvarez.

There is a sickness that runs so deep it can never be obliterated. I fear we are degenerating into a nation of Serbs, Croats and Croatians-eternal enemies of anyone who doesn't look, think, dress or act just like us.

The flag is not a religious icon. I'm an atheist, and even I get the difference.

What a screwed up situation. You don't want to send an ass like that over there, cause you know what will happen, but on the other hand you want the neocon fundies to fight their own crusade. The army ought to refuse to accept him, but they're desperate for bodies.

I don't know who you send to fight a war like that - the ones you want in the army aren't the ones who deserve to be fighting it.

2. Thats a really interesting dichotomy....America's military should reflect
our best, yet, why should they suffer? Why not send assholes like this prick who WANTS to die? I prefer that no one die, but GWB has made that option unavailable.

...and a 6 month vacation to Baghdad where he can protect that flag he says is being desecratated. I'm sure those fine folks in Basra or Kirkuk would love to meet a creative type who not only has mastered culinary skills but is an artist as well. He'll lear a lot about the Koran. :sarcasm:

What makes me think this loser was/is a Young College Repugnican?

5. Yeah, that's where I'd like to be going into boot camp. . .
a real "gung ho" moran who's managed to piss off the officer corps of his reserve battalion. Yeah. Life's gonna be sweet for him come August when he reports for basic training. Oh, there'll be a faction who admire him and wish him well, but I doubt they'll stick too close when the officers come lookin' for him. Next thing you know, he'll be givin' Ned Beatty lessons on how to squeal like a piggie. . .
