SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Military officials and Muslim leaders in Syracuse aren't amused by an Army Reserve recruit's Web contest called "Create a Pig With the Koran."
The contest devised by Jon Alvarez involves using pages from the Muslim holy book to create papier-mache pigs. The Muslim religion forbids followers from consuming pork. His Web site also gives links showing how to get a free copy of the Quran and how to make papier-mache.
Alvarez says the contest illustrates the hypocrisy of Muslim extremists who burn the American flag and condemn Americans for the supposed desecration of the Quran at Guantanamo Bay. advertisement
An officer with the Army Reserve's 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion says the contest "shows poor taste" and will be discussed with Alvarez.
