TimeWarner Houston: CSPAN2 killed on regular cable; now only on digital
(and maybe CSPAN3, also?)
I just read my bill for this month:

Effective July 27th, the following networks will change channel positions: Hallmark Channel moves from Ch 70 to Ch 24, ABC Family moves from Ch 76 to Ch 70, and Shop NBC moves from Ch 77 to Ch 51.
CSPAN2 will move from Ch 78 to digital channel 208; a digital converter and Digital Value pkg subscription will be required

Ch 24 is currently CSPAN3, so this is a double-whammy. This is so aggravating.

Somebody please tell me how to get high-speed internet without Roadrunner or SBC, and I will be ready to cancel cable.

1. I've Been Wondering How Much Longer They'd Let Us Watch CSPAN
CSPAN has been the only respite from what amounts to a media blackout
of all things Democratic. Sounds like Karl has started making calls
to the cable companies.

We may eventually need to set up mirrors for CSPAN's site, since they won't
be able to handle the load if all the major cable systems drop them.
This assumes that CSPAN continues to be funded at all.

9. "let us watch" - sends shivers, since all people should have access
to both cspans - cspan1 = House and cspan2 = Senate. Isn't it odd that they should take away the more powerful Senate's channel?

Maybe a test to see if there's any uproar over taking away easy access to government activities? If not, then try another area and another and another....

I believe cspan 1 and 2 should be free and available to anyone who wants to watch -- it's our government --we put them there --we should get to watch them if we want to without charge!

2. That's not really what's going on
they are trying to get everyone to switch over to digital. You will find more and more channels being deleted from the regular cable, until all that's left is basic.

3. basic here sucks
but at least cspan one and two is still there. We get digital, but I'm waiting for them to do the same with the cspans.

I'm waiting for the regime to find a way to cut the cspans altogether.

7. Maybe - but it's odd that they would pick SENATE ACTIVITIES cspan2 first.
Maybe a test to see if there's any uproar over taking away easy access to government activities? If not, then try another area and another and another....

4. FUCK
I live in houston and Cspan is practically the only reason I watch cable TV. Thank god you can stream them from the cspan site... at a lower quality though.

Get DSL and toss Time Warner.

5. Well, I've had digital for some time....
The options really are better. You get NWI: a Canadian based channel showing news from a non-USA viewpoint. Plus BBCAMERICA--bits of BBC news among the comedy & decoration imports. And a Science channel that shows real science. Plus two history channels with a broader scope the "The History Channel."

And lots of music--see actual videos of what the young whippersnappers are buying--now that MTV is mostly "reality." Current fave: BET Jazz! www.bet.com/betjazz

If we were truly pure, we wouldn't watch the Idiot Box at all...
