It mentioned this as a great assassination method, as LSD's halflife is very short, and would never be suspected in an autopsy. Most of these people would be hard-core government geeks, and would have no clue as to the effects of LSD; they'd think they were losing it, they'd freak out...have YOU tried driving while tripping? Supposedly, the victim would usually drive of a cliff or into a tree before the lethal dosage killed him, making the "accident" that much more plausible. If he just died first, apparently LSD looks a lot like a heart attack at such doses.

It would have been much easier to distract somebody and spike their food or drink. The doses were minute and the drug wouldn't start to act for about an hour, meaning the victim wouldn't notice a funny taste and would likely be on the road when the drug hit.

Evidently it's okay for HIM to use the furniture like that (and look silly in the process). So clearly he's not that worried about potential damage!

The thing is, the WH has access to some of the best cleaning and repair people in the biz. If someone spills coffee on the carpet or upholstery, or leaves finger-marks on the doorknobs, that can be dealt with calmly and efficiently. The most fragile or irreplaceable stuff is in display cases in the Smithsonian. Yes, there are valuable antiques in the Oval Office and other rooms, but they're "working antiques" -- they are there to be seen and used. People who are used to being around such items are careful, sure, but they don't make a big deal about harrumphing when somebody is slouching on the sofa. Being more concerned about telling visitors off than having a productive meeting or creating a welcoming atmosphere sends the message that you care more about a few smudges than about them.


p.s. Oh yeah, and as donsu pointed out, it's not HIS furniture -- it belongs to the American people. If Americans visiting the White House are afraid to sit down because Rummy is glaring at them -- something is wrong here.
