banner of pro-union and that's about all he has except sometimes calling Lush, "Druggie Limbaugh."

I heard him today, Monday, talking about "it's all Iraq". He talked as supporting the GOP (Whore/Liar) Bankruptcy Bill and the (Whore/Liar) Tort Bill.

I'm getting this BullShit feeling about him. As you might know I have this sixth sense. At first I liked him because of his voice. I thought it's really good to have someone who sounds like Lush. I honestly started as really liking him. Maybe because it was Air America whom I thought he was with? I don't see him listed on AA but he comes on at noon on the AA Portland station, 620am.

You have to admit. Franken and Rhodes both have sort-of nasal tone voices. I'm not sure what it's called. To me Shultz has the best voice but he's a traitor to his country.

I've completely changed my opinion. I don't trust him. I can feel it in my bones.

He's turned to the Dark Side of the Force!!!!

38. But don't we need the voices of all of them? Most of our elected Dems
are "Bloviating Dino Shill." But until we can throw them all out what can we do about it?

Schultz does have the WHOLE SPECTRUM of Dems on his show. Look up Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and see how she is fighting for the Progressive Dems...do a Google. Schultz has "showcased her" on his show many, many, many times over the Liberman's, and Bidens.

He's an "everyperson's, everyperson" and that's what he does best. Do I agree with everything he says...NO...but I see that his show does have a line up that includes the "everpersons" viewpoint. When that changes I will come here and diss him. Up to now...I just don't see it.

Maybe he's not pure. He's a mid western Dem like Nelson of Nebraska. But he's hitting the topics. He had a guy on from Wisconsin from a Dem group that voted for Impeachment. And he said that maybe there's something to that 'impeachment' thing. He's hitting Dem topics and he's middle of the road. It works.

8. well...
Well what he is talking about right now is'nt exactly possitive for Bush: that the 1700 reported american casualties is far less than the actual number...and that pictures of coffins have'nt been allowed since "actual" number could then be estimated through counting. Guatanamo Bay, the torture, people there who should'nt be there... others who get out and return to the battlefield... not good for Bush either. Not sure what you want Schultz to say.

He just shouts down anyone who mentions impeachment, I don't expect

16. He mostly just quotes John Conyers concerning impeachment.
Ed says we probably cant impeach at this point due to "the numbers"- but has never suggested the issue should not be pounded home.

Today he suggested we pay the Run-away bride to talk about the DSM!!!

Unlike the TV media or most DEM leaders, ED discusses the DSM daily.

Think of all the red-staters who would not know about the DSM if not for Ed.

21. I understand what you are saying but
to keep saying impeachment "ain't going to happen" is irresponsible, it NEEDS to be discussed and the time is NOW. We can't just wait in the lobby while our government runs amok, if we wait until 2006 and it's "our turn", we may be having a nuclear winter by then.

40. I understand but these may be just crumbs while holding the line
if the end result is that people passively accept the current situation,
it will just be a wait and see until 06, I have heard him repeatedly say
that there's nothing to be done until 06. I think that the current situation is grave enough that we don't have the luxury of waiting. I don't care if this is RW spin or DLC sure win strategy, I think we are at a time in our country where we are on the brink of nuclear warfare & it's time to start thinking globally not what the best strategy is to pick up key seats in 06.

And he has had in depth, spin free coverage of the memos themselves.

See the difference?

Not every host has to be a Malloy or a Rhodes to be appealing & informative.

So Ed wants DEMs to win in 2006, huh? I could think of worse criticisms.

I dont think Ed is a GOP mole at all.

48. Look here's what I am trying to say
Since November 04, many people want 06 to be the issue not NOW, which in ordinary times would be a good idea, however, at this time with this president, we are in a very dangerous situation, with a chance of nuclear involvement possible. We need people to be involved not shouted at, and told to wait to 06 when everything will happen, the time to be involved is NOW, we must change the frame, GWB must be on the defensive not the offensive, I do not want 9-11, THE SEQUEL, or the problem of the blue states resolved by a nuclear winter. We need people who will encourage people to THINK not shout at them.

The Young Turks, the first nationwide liberal talk show, is a funny, smart, irreverent and entertaining look at politics, sex, news, pop culture, current affairs and personal stories. I have known many air personalities throughout the years who were "transformed" into something they weren't because it sold advertising and that is ALL it is about.
My guess is that he is still a conservative but one who was willing to talk about the other side for a buck.
He was chosen SPECIFICALLY because of his Rush-like style--yet the conservatives do NOT need another Rush, so he decided to shill for the other side.
I don't think he is believable, however, he does hit some of our issues on our side every now and again, so it isn't all bad I suppose.

he ended the show with 'yes i do think he should be impeached'. He was in doubt about Pakistanis being paid for Gitmo prisoners, he rec'd an email that stated facts, read it and said what sounded like he was ready to accept the facts afterall.

My take, i listen to Big Ed daily. I don't always agree with him, but then do again agree alot also. But i can think of many folk who would find it hard to accept alot of what is happening as we see it here, and hearing Big Ed doubting, and then sloooowly coming around may make it easier for them to question their own beliefs about what is going on. And eventually coming to face the facts and speaking up ... and we DO need those folks. They wouldn't listen to me, but they will to Big Ed.

Easiest thing to do tho, is to not listen to him if you don't like what he says. He still has a great big middle of 'Merka audience.

dp

edit to add: he also was skeptical about the # of dead soldiers before today, and he had a call from a former intelligence member of the services (i've forgotten which one) that has returned from Iraq. He pointed out the # of KIA does NOT include all of the soldiers wounded and sent to German/US hospitals that died later, and that the #'s were far higher. Ed treated him with great respect, and thanked him for supplying the info. The caller pointed out the soldiers there were unaware of how or what we are hearing here, and how disillusioned they are being there.

doesn't come across as FLYING HIGH THE LIBERAL FLAG...like Randi, Franken and others do.

The audience he will capture is the audience we will need. So, I think he's an asset in the Democratic Stable of the NEW MEDIA.

I'm glad that "Clear Channel" picked him up. They could see he was the Rush Antidote and they knew that Rush's number were going to go down given that there's a NEW AWARENESS of BUSH LIES...in the US...So they went with the Money Schultz would bring in. Good for us...and good for Clear Channel. As the tide turns the Corporate Whores "follow where the audience and the big $$$$$$$$'s are.

For sure he's not a Randi Rhodes or a Mike Malloy. He spent years as a conservative radio host, had a conversion thanks to his 2nd wife, and is now (what I would consider) a moderate Dem. I might not agree with him on everything (I don't even come close) and I have no interest in football, golf, hunting, or fishing. But he gets great guests on a daily basis, and there are a lot of Independents and Republicans who are sitting on the fence and they need SOMEONE who speaks their language and knows where they're coming from - Ed is that someone.

49. another bash ed thread. sorry you don't like him. different strokes...
he's not my favorite (i love Randi and Malloy) but he's better than nothing which is the choice in many places. but i think he's great for bringing us diversity and that is always needed.

50. ...
Bernie Ward is my favorite radio guy, but he is on so late in San Fran I almost never get to hear him. In terms of Schultz, he is a meat head on certain issues while better on others. He is good at ripping Bush & Co which is the main thing. I don't listen to that much radio really, unless I'm in a vehicle... it's time consuming and distracting.

54. Oh...
I listen Malloy, the KGO San Fransisco guys occasionally, and Ed during the day occasionally and that's about it. I did'nt care for the broadcasts of Franken/Rhodes, and, know what? Have'nt listened to a milli-second of them in months... Rather than listen to a broadcaster you hate you might want to change the station...

58. What a strange set of listening tastes! Franken probably has the
most entertaining political show in history! Rhodes, though rough, is full of FACTS, current and past history, which she gives sources for. If someone didn't like Franken, I'd suggest they'd go to Master Yoda for counseling and they'd hopefully return to humanity from the Dark Side of the Force.

57. Maybe not GOP, but enabler of GOP mindset
I used to listen to him when there was nothing else. He has changed. He takes us back now. I am convinced if we allow him and the DLC we just end up with Fascist lite. Can you really have Democracy without real change? Republican lite is what we had under Clinton. Personally I liked Clinton, but he showed how using the existing paradigm does not work. They just gain more control in a more subtle way.

That's quite a lot, IMHO. OTOH, I've only heard him once (on c-span) and I did feel a few hairs bristle on the back of my neck...

If he is what he purports to be, i.e., a rough version of the economic populist--bully for him. If he is some deep plant set up to betray the left at a crucial point--uh oh.

Edit to add: His schtick (from what I am hearing) seems to upset the red-state-gun-totin'-God-fearin'-conservative-vs-the-blue-state-latte-lovin'-metrosexual-liberal stereotypes which are the stock-in-trade of the elites. Would TPTB allow such a thing? I love it, but I don't completely trust it. :tinfoilhat:

60. Ed's show is on AA in LA from 12 -3.
Before AA there were only a couple of NPR stations in LA along with listener-sponsored KPFK which broadcasts Democracy Now along with an ever-changing mishmash of new age-y stuff. We desperately needed a commercial, visible progressive presence on the radio. Now we've got one. Ed is far from perfect. He is abrasive and not terribly well-informed. But he is folksy and doesn't screen calls, which means he gets the opportunity to publically berate some pretty moronic wingnuts. With Ed you've got to look at the glass as half full and look at the bigger picture. He ain't much, but he's better than nothing.

63. Shouldn't be be saying the things he says on a FOX radio station in the
South? I don't trust him so why is he on Air America?

But I see your point of nothing else being aired in Redneck fascist/racist areas of the country.

61. He didn't know who Bob LaFolette was.
A few days ago a caller mentioned LaFolette and Ed didn't know who he was. (turn-of-the-century Republican populist from Wisconsin)

I just checked wikipedia and there isn't an entry for Bob LaFolette, there's hardly anything on the internet, and I didn't get any results when I did a search on amazon.com in the Books category. :-(

On the whole, I would have to say Ed is better than nothing but still a recovering rightie.

64. I listened to him say he didn't know who was Zell Miller when a caller
asked a question. I almost choked. (It was about 2 months ago and I'm 70% the caller asked about Zell Miller.)
