8. She worships Clinton too much.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 05:07 PM by UdoKier
Working-class and poor people made slight gains in earning power for about 2 years under Clinton, which was better than the 25-year trend of them losing earning power (those gains were immediately erased by Dumbya), but the gains were modest, and during that same period, household debt for most families soared. Unemployment was low, but it's supposedly low now, too....

A more progressive president with a little less vulnerability on "personal issues" could have undoubtedly achieved more for working people.

That being said, Clinton was an incredibly charismatic politician, and that counts for a lot in a party with a high percentage of nebbishes (sorry, but you KNOW it's true.)

7. The gap grew, but that does not mean the poor did not do better.
He could have done more, but he did raise the min. wage.

21. It's complicated enough without all the "as a percentage of"s
See the link above for a table showing the income change under Clinton's watch. Speaking strictly of earnings, the poor did improve their position.

22. It's not complicated at all.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 06:00 PM by TahitiNut
It shows the share of what's produced and the share of all income that employees (i.e. managers and workers on payrolls) received compensation for creating.

What it does is remove all questions of inflation/deflation and over/under employment from seeing the degree to which employees are compensated for the wealth they create.

It's not enough to merely look at the net change in eight years. The first term for Clinton/Gore was horrible compared to the second term.

So, what happened???

The increase in the minimum wage is one thing that happened!!

11. The income gap actually started growing during the Reagan Admin
and coincides with the waning of unions. The income gap was the narrowest in the 1950's.

10. I'm with you, BlueEyedSon......
The Clinton administration lifted MY boat really high!

I was hopeful for the future of myself and my two children.

Now, we have an administration that's so incompetent they can't even get us all flu shots! So heartless that they attempted to kick start the economy by starting a war.

25. Me too. I have moved to the RADICAL left of
Mr. "Centrist" Clinton. I loved him when he was prez, but he and Hillary are just too damn moderate for me. I'm sick to death of "making nice" with repukes. THAT is how we got in the situation we are in AND evoting machines. :( Clinton knew damn good and well what was in the DSM. The DLC must have told him to play it cool. THAT sucks.

The time to be nice to these scumbags is over. What exactly are we hoping to get out of it, that we can rest assured we WILL get when the time comes?

I love Bill - really I do - but it is high time to fight fire with fire.
