A new letter from Michael Moore.....Clark Related.
This is another Mike Moore bit on Clark, folks should read
it. I think Clark is taking some chances, I hope they pay
off.

Mike's Message September 23, 2003
"And Now a Chance to Bid Farewell to Mr. Bush" (from Michael Moore)

Last week, over 30,000 of you from my list sent letters to Wesley Clark urging to him to run. And, hey, um -- it looks like it helped! He announced on Wednesday and by Sunday he was #1 in the Newsweek poll on the 10 Democratic candidates. By yesterday, according to the CNN/Time poll, he was nine points ahead of his nearest rival -- and three percentage points ahead of Bush if the election were held today.

But now the hard part begins. In my open letter to General Clark, while strongly encouraging him to run, I told him that I was not yet endorsing him -- I have no plans to endorse anyone at this point -- yet I thought his voice should be heard in this campaign. Why? Because I heard him say things that I think the American public needs to hear.

My wife and I were invited over to a neighbor's home 12 days ago where Clark told those gathered....

1. Wow
I like Clark, not my top choice, but I'd vote for the man in the big dance any day and with no qualms either.

This was a good little incite and I hope he drives that home during the public forums.

7. I don't trust Clark. I am glad that Moore is NOT endorsing him
I think that he would likely be told to say whatever he needs to to get elected now that they know Bush is unlikely to win.

If he has such trusted friends in the administration and the pentagon and he is deeply in bed with military contractors like the MPRC in Columbia and Dyncorp etc -- whom he dealt with in Columbia as Commander of the Southern Command in 1996-7 -- then can any of us really trust him???

I can't.

But I am trying to keep a semi-open mind. It is very hard to though when my intuition and research is screaming NO NO NO NO NO.

2. Glad to hear of Moore's support....
but not too sure Clark would spill those beans (in Moore's story) in a national debate.....and Moore is expecting him to do this?

8. Or Perhaps Clark Isn't the Anti-Christ YOU Think He Is
After all, Moore has only met Clark personally and spoken with him at length. You, however, possess the inscrutable wisdom of a man who is able to troll the Internet for Clark hit pieces.

It's a slam dunk. Your judgment is obviously better and more meaningful than Moore's.

what a trite response. Nobody was attacking your fuhrer here, so calm down and actually try to embrace the concept of mature discussion.

over Dean. Now anyone who doesn't support Dean is a little fella or has no brains.

Gees, doesn't he know that the odds are high it's going to be Dean/Clark or clark/Dean?

16. same here
i guess Moore is grateful that Clark defended him on TV. but his gratitude seems to have blinded him to Clark's deficiencies. such as voting for Reagan, raising funds for repubs, and all-around inability to give straight answers to simple questions. not to mention the radioactive mess he left behind in the Kosovo war.

20. "radioactive mess HE left behind"??? WTF?
Clark didn't leave it behind in Kosovo personally,, ffs! The US military uses depleted uranium projectiles (called 'sabots') in it's big artillery, rockets, etc., and I'm QUITE sure Clark didn't sign off on the decision to manufacture the sabots from DU.

God's teeth! I'm a Dean supporter, but that is one of the MOST ludicrous charges I have ever seen laid at ANYONE's feet.

17. Dean may have made his mark as being "anti-war"
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 06:58 PM by familydoctor
but Clark is not just an "anti-war" candidate. Actually,
he is the guy with the most comprehensive and I think
effective pro-peace foreign policy agenda. It is far more
sophisticated and employable than a "hell no, we won't go"
approach.

Dean is not the gold standard of this race anymore. Clark
has changed that (Clark is not the gold stand either, it is
now up for grabs).

I think Kerry has a new vitality because
this is now about who has the most seriously credible foreign
policy plan and credentials. Dean has made political hay by
contrasting himself with the flimsy-spined milquetoast approach.
However, now that all the candidates are showing spunk, it's not
as big of a deal or difference. Smugly, we all know Iraq was
a mistake in retrospect, but that wasn't exactly obvious until
the aftermath didn't go well. Dean didn't get his big surge until
the aftermath was seen as being poorly run -- i.e. this summer.
Frankly, Clark predicted what has come to pass back in the fall of
2002. But his nuanced stance will weather anything that will happen
between now and fall 2004.

If things go better in Iraq in the next year, Dean is toast.
Dean took a political gamble that has paid off (thus far). Was
it because of principle, I doubt it. That's just my hunch. He's
a smart politician, no doubt, and I would be proud to have him
as my President, but I think his supporters don't express enough
honesty about what he really is, a very centrist Governor from
a very liberal state who supported every major military action up
until Iraq.

However, in all honesty, he used the
"run to the left" approach to tap into the anger of the democratic
base, echoing their concerns. They responded with vigor and dollars
because they weren't hearing it elsewhere. Clark is considered
by some pundits as "Dean with Stars and Flags" but that is not
accurate. He really did have a nuanced stance on the war, but has
been repeatedly vocal about his misgivings about the administration.
Kerry, had a nuanced stance and so did some of the others. The
problem is, they were too quiet all this time because they thought
the war would go well. Only Clark knew it wouldn't. Perhaps Dean
has been listening to Clark all along and placing his bets with
the same guy as me -- the General.

I wonder if Moore's support will calm the nerves of any of the people who are shying from Clark b/c of his military past.

6. Frankly....
I think this explains why the Right has gone for
his throat. He knows stuff they don't want us to hear.

Actually we all know it but Clark is able to recount it
first-hand.

I kind of like Moore, a little over the top but boy did
I love his Oscar speech. That was like the Boston Tea Party
as far as I am concerned.

I have been reading up on all the candidates. We have a good
field we should be proud of. We should also be proud of Gore
and Clinton. Trying to kill our confidence has been the secret
tool that Limbaugh et al. has divided us.

People have to admit by getting someone dedicated to our Country
like Clark on our side helps us up and down the board. This
will be a tough primary. I hope we fight it with dignity and
honesty. Good luck all.

He wants Clark in the race because he thinks the American public should hear what Clark has to say.

That's all. So far.

"He hasn't picked ANYONE yet!"

This hyperbole of claiming that Moore is
picking candidates for us is just deluded.

In his two pieces on Clark, Moore has gone
out of his way to say he's not endorsing him.
Right now he merely wants him to be part of
the discourse, part of the debate, have his
voice in the mix.

And the main reason I pay attention to Moore is
because of his Oscar speech. Frankly I think
it's one of the bravest things I've ever seen
anyone do. That was a kick-ass speech, and he
took a lot of shit for it. So he's earned
some cred with me.
