A Robert Kennedy quote to make you weep
for what America, and the world, lost. It sounds as though his spirit's still restless:

"I urge you to learn the harsh facts that lurk behind the mask of official illusion with which we have concealed our true circumstances, even from ourselves. Our country is in danger: Not just from foreign enemies; but above all, from our own misguided policies, and what they can do to this country. There is a contest, not for the rule of America, but for the heart of America."

Has anything been right since 1968?

1. At age thirteen
I took these words to heart and have never forgotten them.

2. Yes I remember
And I remember so much more.
But the comment that made me think was when he said; “Some people see things as they are and ask why, I see things that never were and ask why not?”

Things have not changed at all, in fact we are further from the truth than ever before. We need a real leader that we can believe in again.

3. I Remember
I have tried to forget and stand aside, just do my own thing, but Howard Dean has brought me back. I am now a + instead of a -. Bobby was the best hope for America. The rest of my life, I wonder what if. I work for Howard in his memory.

4. Odd you mention that.
It feels to me like 2004 could be 1968 all over again, but in the worst possible way. I'm worried as hell for the safety of the Dem candidates next year, particularly Dean, and whomever might be the eventual nominee. This forboding is new to me, but after the last three years I feel there's no atrocity that's beyond these bastards.

I was an eight-year old in a small southern Ontario town when Robert Kennedy was shot. I remember turning on the CBS Morning News and watching the disturbing coverage from Los Angeles. That day, my Grade 3 teacher wrote his name on the chalkboard and had us copy it, then left to sob uncontrollably in the hallway.

His death was the day I count as my political awakening. I hope to God we never see another one like it.
