Why Are Some American Christians So Bloodthirsty?
It's been going on for years now. Almost daily we read that another child, another parent.. is killed in Afghanistan or Iraq by U.S. weaponry in Mr. Bush's "war on terror." Sometimes it's a wedding party, or a bunch of kids, or a family of six.. who may even be killed on camera in real time for all the world to see and hear.

But no matter how bad it gets, nothing seems to change.. among Christian supporters of the Bush administration. "Stuff happens in a war zone.".. I've been reassured by countless pro-war Christians that, as long as civilians aren't intentionally targeted, taking their lives is okay, maybe even predestined, God's will...

Two kinds of American Christians

.. many Christians in America will blindly support whichever war their president promotes, with the assumption that his much-advertised praying guarantees us that God approves of all those bombs and missiles, and even the inevitable collateral damage... all Christians in the U.S. find civilian deaths an acceptable price to ..pay for Mr. Bush's ultimate goals.. 1. They think the have all the answers
it's a sign of a very immature mind. Kinda scary when you think about who runs the country.

2. Not many Christians.
But plenty of Pseudochristians, and they've always been bloodthirsty, along with being racist, sexist, and willfully ignorant.

Don't confuse Pseudochristian Millenialists with real Christians, that's what they want you to do.

9. Love God = Love Military
An article about the possible closure of Cannon AFB at Clovis, NM included some guy saying, "Clovis is a Christian town. We love the military."

I think there's some weird undercurrents in Xtianity about gender identification. Throughout the Bible, there are metaphors about Christ as the head of the church just as a man is the head of the family. The gist of them is Christ = masculine leader, church = feminine follower. Maybe males who are really into conservative Xtianity and deeply tied into some church have to compensate by adopting a really bully-boy, "I'm the boss, the Enforcer, Promise Keeper" sort of dominating mentality to keep from feeling like bottoms instead of tops.

4. No, I think this is how it works
In the more dominionist flavors of Christianity, death is the big payoff: you get to meet your maker, hang out on the right hand of Lord Jesus's throne, and (possibly the most fun for these loons) sneer at all the sinners roasting in the fiery furnaces of Hell.

At least that's what Pat Robertson's forefathers told their slaves.

6. I think the excessive focus on externals
who's in, who's out, who's right and wrong -- what the other guy is doing... helps these people avoid looking inside at their own faults and shortcomings. So fighting those nameless "bad guys" (who might not even be *gasp* fundamentalist Christians!) is cool. They can even persuade themselves that it's somehow Godly. (Quite a twist, that.)

Introspection, responsibility... these aren't really part of the mind-set, from what I can see. They stay busy pointing fingers, b/c it makes them feel like the good guys by default.

7. But they don't want to shed their own blood
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 08:15 AM by BOSSHOG
iraq is their war. bush is their hero. So why is the Army missing recruiting goal month after month? Because his supporters are cowards.

8. Because some Christians..
... are not Christians at all. A "Christian" believes in the words and ideas of Jesus Christ. Huge numbers of folks in America who call themselves Christians seem to be either totally unfamiliar with His words, or feel like they can do anything they like, ask for forgiveness and everything will be hunky-dory.

The small condition of "accepting Jesus Christ in your heart" is overlooked as a formality. It's really too bad.
