Putting aside differences of opinion about the war in Iraq....
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 10:10 AM by Postman
an argument from the pro-war loons about differences of opinion regarding the war in Iraq goes like this:

"It doesn't matter now what your position about the war in Iraq is. We should stand behind the President and support the troops."

to which I say - Then you give the German people a pass for supporting Hitlers incursions into eastern and western Europe. Because it doesn't matter whether he was right or wrong to invade those countries, the people should have supported their President and the troops.

It's the same damn thing now that it has been proved the war in Iraq was a lie and unnecessary.

It's the my country, right or wrong mentality.

The problem is they never finish the quote - when right to keep her right, when wrong, to make her right.

It's like saying- my mother, drunk or sober

2. That's David Brooks's stupid ass argument in his column today.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/23/opinion/23brooks.html?hp

"Yet I can't believe majorities of Americans really want to pull out and accept defeat. I can't believe they want to abandon to the Zarqawis and the Baathists those 8.5 million Iraqis who held up purple fingers on Election Day. I can't believe they are yet ready to accept a terrorist-run state in the heart of the Middle East, a civil war in Iraq, the crushing of democratic hopes in places like Egypt and Iran, and the ruinous consequences for American power and prestige."

He can't believe, in other words, that Americans are too smart to buy the Bushist bullshit about Iraq.

3. And there's our usual response to this...
The best way to support the troops is to bring them home. It's the other side that wants to see them shot at.
