Diabetes and HFCS...Democracy Now
The story was about breastfeeding and the milk council lobby's killing of a new ad campaign promoting breastfeeding. This story really made me think.

Perhaps the connection has been made many time, but I just NOW made the connection..

The boomer generation was really the first generation to be massively fed "formula"..In MY day it was carnation+Karo syrup..Younger boomers and kids since have had Similac, enfamil etc..

MY generation did not have the additional bombardment of HUGE quantities of soda pop (it was a treat back then, not a staple) and fast food as soon as we got teeth.. Fast food arrived for US when we were teens (most of us older ones)

Boomers are developing DiabetesII at alarming rates, and children are being diagnosed at even earlier ages..

There HAS to be a connection here..

1. HFCS and breastfeeding: my experience
I have a pretty clean diet, by circumstance more than by choice. My nearest food store is part of the Wild Oats chain, so simply by doing all my shopping there I've managed to keep processed foods and nearly all icky food additives out of our house. The only soda I buy is Blue Sky brand, and it's sweetened with cane sugar, not HFCS.

This past weekend my husband and I had a junk food binge: we bought burgers, fries, sodas, and shakes from our nearby Sonic. It was a hot, hot day, and I sucked that icy-cold Coca Cola down. I have a four-month old son who is breastfeeding, and I nursed him one hour after having that soda. Then I drank my husband's Coke, and nursed my son again (about 2 hours after the previous feeding). I hadn't seen our baby that unhappy in weeks. He cried and cried angry and frustrated tears. I could not figure out what was wrong, then I started thinking about what I had eaten that day, and I thought about all the soda I drank.

Normally, I wouldn't blame it on the soda. But a month ago we were at a small party, and I had a can of soda to drink, then nursed my son a little while later. An hour after that nursing, he was frustrated and angry and cried and cried. He would not be soothed. I didn't correlate the tears that day with the soda pop until we had a repeat performance this weekend.
I will never drink soda and nurse my baby again. HFCS is poison.

were nursing, but other than a few of them being "ALERT", no oone had any problems with it.

We did not buy sodas because we were too cheap :)( and sodas were in glass bottles back then..and I am a weakling-lazy-ass:)
