Baptists call off 8-year Disney boycott
16-million-strong group started boycott in '97 because Disney offered benefits to same-sex partners.
June 22, 2005: 4:28 PM EDT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Reuters) - The Southern Baptist Convention, the largest U.S. Protestant denomination, ended its eight-year-old boycott of the Walt Disney Co. Wednesday and said it had made its point.

The 16-million-member group began the boycott in 1997 to protest Disney giving benefits to same-sex partners of employees, and at that time urged members to boycott the company's parks and products.

But the group's annual convention Wednesday passed a resolution saying "The boycott has communicated effectively our displeasure concerning products and policies that violate moral righteousness and traditional family values, and for a boycott to be effective, it must be specifically targeted and of limited duration."

1. Yeah, they sure showed Disney
what a ridiculous bunch of bigoted shitheads they were....

By the way, hear anything about them condemning the racist turd who was convicted in Mississippi last week of the civil rights murders? He WAS a Baptist preacher after all....but they don't seem to have even defrocked him.

2. I wonder if we should boycott Disney now
for not doing enough to keep the Baptist boycott alive. How about a set of "out" characters?

7. I have no proof, but this fairly screams to me...
...that some Disney execs made a few well-placed donations.

8. Like they were ever noticed before.
Good they finally gave up. Although Disney has gotten more in league with the coperate mindset controlling the US lately.
