Weird. I agree with wingers. IFC is inappropriate for new WTC memorial
IFC being, not Independent Film Channel or Indiana Fried Chicken, but International Freedom Center. Some 9/11 families say it will detract from the purpose of the memorial, which is to remember 9/11. Wingers say it will politicize the monument--but they claim it will be used for America bashing. I don't see how something George Bush-toady Pataki wants on the site can be used for America-bashing. But I do believe nothing useful can come out of creating an institution that supposedly "celebrates freedom and democracy." Sounds like a cockamie neo-con propaganda ploy to me. Feh.

1. Forget all that, let's build a memorial to our victory in Iraq.
The overthrow of Hussein, the installation of true democracy, etc.

6. I agree with you.
From NY Post (6/23):

Critics — including many families of 9/11 victims — said the only history lesson that should be taught at Ground Zero is about the heroes who were killed that day.

Change the word "heroes" to "people" and I endorse this without reservation.

It makes no sense building a center at "Ground Zero" (God, how I hate that term) that tries to explain the intifada, or Jim Crow lynchings, or the rape of the Balkans, or Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Communism, Imperialism, whatever. Not there. Keep it on topic, focusing on the senseless deaths of 9/11. Do not let it be hijacked by ideologues of any stripe.

11. it has no place there
its being over-programmed.

and no matter what the IFC contains, it will be a watered down bullshit compromise that won't make anyone happy. especially since no one knows what "freedom" means. if they ever did.
