Open Letter to Democratic Underground: Please Give a Read

People, a while back I wrote a little ditty on what the democratic party needed:Balls and Brains. The beast that has been lying dormant for the past 5 years is beginning to awaken from it's slumber and support what we, liberals stand for.

The Democratic party has,in my opinion, turned 180 degrees in a matter of months and have been calling the shots on the hill, slapping the administration around, and making sure the public is starting to get the message in full effect. This is the leadership I, and we have been looking for all this time. Granted it starts at the grassroots, places like us here at Democratic Underground. We are the catalyst held against the flame, and I commend all of our coeds on the other liberal based boards in getting our message of dissent across.

With our leaders and the general public of America growing ever more weary of the Chimp and his lying bag of cronies, we need to stand fast beside our leaders and make sure they have the morale, and the monetary support they need to continue the biggest struggle in modern American politics. The Conservatives view our agenda as one to undermine theirs, and they are frightened now!

We liberals have a voice now, whether it is through Sen. Byrd, Boxer, Kerry, and Chairman Dean, or all the way down to your local leader. I urge us all to use these voices and keep the movement going. Taking action over inaction will only cause victory in our case.

12. I worship those two, no question about it

and in a more perfect world, that is just how it should be, that or Conyers/Boxer '08. But if there is any way at all, we have to take back the WH in 2008 because if not, this game is over. Fascism wins, take your toys home.

In a perfect world, Conyers and Boxer would win in a landslide. If the vote were held here on DU, they would get an overwhelming majority. I would vote for them for sure.

That said, out in middle America, both of them suffer from unacceptable disabilities. One suffers from blackness, the other from femaleness. And middle America and the south suffer from a really big moral deficit called bigotry. We would lose the bigot vote and I hate to tell you this, that constituency is huge. It's shamefully huge. It's one of the reasons I sometimes question whether I want to stay here in America. This isn't a new illness, it's been here since the pilgrims landed.

I can't support this ticket, not because it isn't worthy, God it is the worthiest, because we have to have a candidate who can win by a landslide. Even that may not be enough with Diebold, but we have to try.

I fucking hate McCain at this point but if Wes Clark ran as the presidential contender with McCain as his running mate (never going to happen), we would win in a landslide and I would vote for them. I would hate a bit of my hypocritical self but I would understand that saving the country right now trumps my sense of righteousness.

13. See, I think we tried the centrist/white bread strategy in 2004.

Kerry was nearly indistinguishable from Bush on some major issues, especially the war. He won by only 3 points, not enough to overcome the fraud. I believe what voters were looking for was a candidate who is strong enough and proud enough to say exactly what they think, and back it up with action. They can respect that, even if they don't agree on every detail, such as abortion or skin color. It's more important that a candidate seem "strong" than that they seem "palatable."

14. In the south (where I'm from, sadly)

Color and sex matter far more than if they are of stellar character. Second, they want someone who can talk down home to them. They don't want a policy wonk, even though that's who would be the most capable leader. In other words, in the south, this is nothing but a popularity contest to a group of people no more mature and thoughtful than a bunch of high schoolers.

I hate that the two best candidates for the job (Conyers and Boxer) will not get a chance because of the bigot brigade but I know that this time around we can't afford to stand on that principal and say, "fuck 'em". If we aren't able to turn things around in 2006 and 2008, we can take our toys and go home. This grand experiment will be over. Heck, it may already be over, I'm not really sure.

Allegedly, they work for us, not the other way around.
