Peter Daou DESTROYS Rove

http://daoureport.salon.com/synopsis.aspx?synopsisId=2c4b940b-f2d8-422d-b97f-a6caa52db966

I'm devoting much of today's report to Karl Rove's vile comments denigrating half of the American public. My office overlooks Ground Zero, and I'm looking at the gaping footprint as I write this. My wife and I were in New York that day, on our way to the WTC for a morning meeting. A chance phone call dragged on a few minutes too long and most likely saved our lives. I lost friends in the towers, and when I walk past the site, as I do almost every evening, the pain is as real as it was on September 11th, 2001.

I spent my youth in Beirut during the height of Lebanon's civil war, and I fought the Syrian presence in Lebanon long before the "Cedar Revolution." I watched young boys give their lives and mothers cradle their dying children in blood-soaked arms. I've seen more bloodshed, war, and violence, and shot more guns than most of the 101st Fighting Keyboardists combined. I wouldn't presume to question the strength or dignity of a stranger, and I pity those who blithely push the right=strong, left=weak rhetoric. It says far more about their inadequacies than it does about the target of their scorn. Today, Karl Rove took that rhetoric to a new, filthy low.

1. Interesting blog..I was looking
for more but I guess that was all Peter Daou had to say on rove.

It was brilliant, though..we needed to hear from people like him who live in NYC.

2. I live in NY
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 07:37 PM by Catrina
not the city, but most NYers will be outraged over what he said. I just told one of my friends, who also lives near the city and she had a fit, didn't believe me at first!

I like the last line from Peter Daou ~ 'a new, filthy low' ~ I would say they couldn't go lower, but I've said that before about this gang of thugs, and they never fail to prove me wrong!! Pos coward Rove needs to go, NOW!

18. He seems to have just updated his remarks.
"I'll keep it simple: I challenge any of those outraged by Durbin to demonstrate that the senator, in his heart of hearts, thinks our troops are Nazis. It's painfully obvious that he was illustrating a point and used a hyperbolic analogy. In Durbin's case the outrage is feigned, and a political tool. It defies common sense to think Durbin actually believes "all US troops are Nazis." Now the same reasoning doesn't hold true for Rove, who expressed a thought that actually is widely held on the right: that liberals can't or won't defend America. Despite the sheer imbecility of it, many on the right really believe it to be true. And so I'll repeat, to those who question my strength, my convictions, my willingness to defend my family - as I have done my whole life in circumstances far more difficult than what a good number of Rove's cheerleaders will ever face - I thoroughly reject Rove's words. And I'd expect any of my critics to do the same if their patriotism was questioned in so loathsome a manner."

5. He Attacks Americans
He talks about his own fellow citizens like they were the enemy. I'd say he made himself into the only enemy.

8. Do you think he had a purpose
or is it just that Karl is meant to be in the background?

I think Karl probably actually believes what he said, as so many Conservatives actually seem to believe the same thing.

But then again, it could have been a lame attempt, ala the campaign, to attach their star to 9/11 again.

I don't know. I just think that maybe they were better off PR-wize with Rove working in the background.

I can't tell what the man really believes. Is everything that comes out of his mouth part of a political game he's playing, or does his mask slip on occasion, showing the kook beneath?

12. He just spews deceit
The problem is he can see the crash looming up ahead which is Iraq, he has gone on the attack to find a scapegoat, i.e. the liberals, sorry, after 9-11, Bush had 90% cooperation from ALL Americans and he threw it down the sewer to run after his rich corporate elite, now the elite have glutted themselves on oil, what do they need Bush for now, even Rove can see it's the beginning of the end for Blair in Britain, where's their
power base. The moral majority is fuming to find out that Bush sold out
America for pieces of silver.

7. Rove reveals his utter ignorance....
by thinking he can use and use the horror of Sept. 11, 2001 without
people finally get sick of it. He has such obvious disinterest in the
real people affected by that day's events. Not only does he not care
what they think, he doesn't seem to know they exist.

22. speaking of "sick of it".....
It makes me sick to my stomach, watching CSPAN, all those repugs who follow every thing they say with.... "God bless our troops, and we will never forget September 11." Shameless use of tragedy.

9. I sure wish Kerry had the guts to speak like that.

It would sound even better on the Senate floor than it does on Salon.

11. Kerry did speak out about it
today, and I believe he said he should resign. I think it WAS on the Senate floor, but am not sure.

So far, Reid, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer, the NJ Senators, have all asked him to apologize.

I just watched a minute of the Tucker Carlton show, (by accident, but heard the word Rove and decided to check it out) TC said 'we shouldn't make this a Dem/Rep. issue, and then went on to do just that, and his cohort on the show believes Rove had a right to say it, because 'liberals had a different reaction' etc. etc.

Okay!! Here's how the DSM can be used to attack Rove, Tucker Carlson and the rest of them. The reason Bush et al were all ready to go to war (TC said this) we now know is because BUSH HAD PLANNED to go to war LONG before 9/11 with Iraq, (which had nothing to do with terrorism) We know this because of the Downing Street Memo/minutes!!

Everytime they agree with Rove's statement we need to use it to tell the truth. Yes, Bush was ready for war from the beginning, the DSM verifies that! And wasn't he lucky (in his own words 'I hit the trifecta) that 9/11 happened so that he could use it to invade two countries, one of which had nothing to do with it.

I would like Rove to be locked in a room with my friend who lost her daughter that day so that she could tell him exactly how she, a Democrat, felt that day, and how she now feels about his vicious attack on her and half the country!! I never hated anyone before, but it's very hard not to hate this man.
