Love and Action Camp Under Investgation
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 07:28 PM by ls317
The state of Tennessee has begun an investigation in response to allegations of child abuse at Love in Action, a Memphis facility that advertises homosexual conversion therapy for adolescents, according to the state department of health.

K. Daniele Edwards, a spokesperson for Child Services at the Tennessee Department of Health, confirmed an investigation is underway but declined to comment on the details. She noted that she presumes the Love in Action program would require licensing by the state.

1. Thanks for the link - Cho was just commenting on this on
'Majority Report.' I hope Tennessee pulls the plug on this program.

I suppose if the teen said they wanted to be there it would be different, but not much different. The APA has long held that gays who want therapy to become straight should be supported in accepting their true feelings - violating this guideline with teens is particularly dangerous I would think.

The suicide rate for gay teen males is already outrageous. I would really like to see a "Big Gay Brothers" program made available to teens who are confused about their identity. A program in which gay and lesbian teens could get to know gay and lesbian families/adults in a healthy, supportive relationship. I know that if my child came out to me I would want them to have a chance to talk with an adult who knew what they were experiencing. I have gay and lesbian friends - but maybe PFLAG could create a very positive alternative for kids like Zach (after he gets out of 'prison').
