Proof Bush Fixed The Facts (- Ray McGovern)
http://www.tompaine.com/articles/20050504/proof_bush_fixed_the_facts.php

"Intelligence and facts are being fixed around the policy."

Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would see those words in black and white—and beneath a SECRET stamp, no less. For three years now, we in Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) have been saying that the CIA and its British counterpart, MI-6, were ordered by their countries' leaders to "fix facts" to "justify" an unprovoked war on Iraq. More often than not, we have been greeted with stares of incredulity.
...
Thanks to an unauthorized disclosure by a courageous whistleblower, the evidence now leaps from official documents — this time authentic, not forged.
...
In emotionless English, Dearlove tells Blair and the others that President Bush has decided to remove Saddam Hussein by launching a war that is to be "justified by the conjunction of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction." Period. What about the intelligence? Dearlove adds matter-of-factly, "The intelligence and facts are being fixed around the policy."
...
Dearlove notes ... that "there was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action."
...
The intelligence was not simply mistaken; it was manufactured, with the president of the United States awarding foreman George Tenet the Medal of Freedom for his role in helping supervise the deceit. The British documents make clear that this was not a mere case of "leaning forward" in analyzing the intelligence, but rather mass deception—an order of magnitude more serious. No other conclusion is now possible.

2. I was very impressed with McGovern during Conyers' hearing

The way he spoke, recalled what happened, presented the
facts-- you just knew he was being truthful.
But it's amazing how the repugs can maliciously destroy
a person-- even a person who is absolutely beyond reproach.

They'd destroy Jesus if he got in their way.

black is white
up is down
wrong is right

Everything with these people is backwards. If they said "a comet is not coming to us" turn it around and run.

8. In a sense they HAVE destroyed Jesus, at least in their hate-filled
congregations of extremist Fristians. Even a non-Christian like me can see that Jesus would be heartbroken and furious at what they do and say in his name.

4. Depends on what your definition of "fixed" is.
If it means "to attach," as in sticking certain ideas, instead of the facts, to a certain policy, it's bad.

If it means "to repair," as in cooking the intelligence to match the desired ideas, it's still bad.

With the Bush gang, it's probably both.

6. Fixed means exactly what most think it means.
Even Blair used the word in that exact way and did not deny the authenticity of the DS minutes. To parse that word is RW Bulshit!

I still believe that the DSMs are still not enough to Impeach Bush, Cheney and the rest of the scum. I am hoping that the rank and file that got shit upon will leak the required docs that prove 100% that the Bush Regime mfg. the WMD claims and lied to the Congress, a High Crime. Lying to the Amerikan people and the at the UN to world aren't actual crimes.

10. Bush Fixed Congress.
Remember all the talk about "unmanned drones" launched from boats to drop their loads of anthrax on U.S. cities along the eastern seaboard? That sounded like a load of bull to me, but to Congress it must've struck a raw nerve.

Well, here's a guy who knows what's what and who's who (I wish he was in Congress):

Fixing To Fix "Fixed"

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Ray McGovern
June 24, 2005

The Downing Street papers are proving a formidable challenge to the White House PR machine as it desperately tries -- in often-ludicrous ways -- to slow down a train that has already left the station. And interest continues to build. The leaked British documents are now on the top-ten list of Google queries.

One huge fly in the ointment for the administration was British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s early decision that it would be a fool’s errand to challenge the authenticity of the papers. Why? Because there is still a relatively free Fourth Estate in the U.K. together with patriotic whistleblowers willing to risk jail for exposing the government dishonesty.

This has prevented the White House from labeling the documents spurious. And Michael Smith, the British journalist who was given them has now acknowledged that more than one such patriot has been involved.)

Smoke Rather Than Denial

With Blair forced to acknowledge that the documents are authentic, the White House could hardly label them spurious. Smoke, rather than outright denial, is had to be the chosen course.

Thus, many too-clever-by-half interpretations are now being offered for the eleven words with which the head of British intelligence, fresh back from Washington in July 2002, unwittingly gave the game away:

“But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.” \
