Are we at a critical turning point in America?
I feel like I'm standing on the edge of a precipice right now. The repukes are screwing up left and right. Suddenly it seems like either things are going to finally look up or it's all going to blow up in our faces.

This isn't a defeatist attitude I'm taking. Far from it. I feel pretty damn good at watching an implosion right in front of my eyes.

I'm looking at a wild animal (neocons and fundies)backed into a corner with nowhere to go which is where this regime is at. One of two things will happen. Either they'll cower and continue to debase themselves in the process or they'll try to take us down with them.

1. Not yet.

They still have a few boners to pull, in their thrashing. I figure that by the end of the summer, this country is gonna be on tilt.

On edit: It will be painful getting there. Rather.

2. Strange, isn't it?
They are in control of the entire political and media processes and they are "backed into a corner"? What's up with that?

It DOES seem this country is at a critical turning point. Fasten your seat belt, it's gonna be a bumpy ride... good or bad.

3. I don't think we are even close to that point yet, sad to say.
We get somewhat insulated in here on the DU because we represent the very liberal and very well-informed, for the most part. Bush has a 44% approval rating. Low, yes. But not that low. Not low enough to say that he has lost his power. When we start getting under 40% and really under 35%, we can say the tide has shifted truly in this country.

4. In Bush's public appearances he seems to be getting
angrier. (more unstable) Rove came out of the bat cave for a rare personal appearance - a vile, venomous counterattack. Nonetheless, Cheney still has that Cheshire cat grin on his face. Things are starting to get interesting, but I don't expect anything to tilt except public opinion.

5. IMO, the only chance we have....
is if some fair-minded repugs help us take down BushCo. Otherwise, with their firm control over all branches of government, what exactly do you think is going to change, except a continued free-fall, which isn't exactly a change, is it?
