Why do you think Rove was brought out today?
A guy on Malloy suggested it was because of the poll numbers and support for Iraq. People are wanting to leave and everything. This guy thinks in his speech next Tuesday he'll bring up 9/11 and Iraq and try to link the two again. Also he pointed out that the focus was away from Cheney and his remarks about Dean's mother. So what do you all think about that? I pretty much agree with this guy. The only thing Bush has to run on is 9/11.

1. Probably.
Rove is considered the supposed genius behind the White House and all the guy can do is sling shit all over the place. That's all the repukes have ever had going for them and instead of making things better, the guy just made his party an even bigger fuck up in the press and the public.

10. What I want to know is where....
are all the Vietnam Vets that could take some action? Hell, they were in this same kind of war, and are trained to take action. They are and have been mistreated by the US in General, and certainly are now. Come on you guys, stand up and speak about what is going on in your country!

2. To clean up some of the mess he made?
Surely folks in the WH and RNC think his comments went too far or are concerned they placed reps in an awkward position.

7. Her first at-bat is set for early August. If she shows up earlier,
you can bet they are even more desperate.

13. What's she supposed to do in August?
I haven't heard much about here since the announcement that she was back in DC.

18. I think she returns to DC then after her son graduates high school
or starts college or something like that.

SHe is supposed to work on improving US image among countries that are primarily Islamic. Of course, we all have a few suggestions for that:
1) Dump their "crusader" W.
2) Withdraw US troops as occupiers from Muslim countries.

5. Yes, attempted diversion. Here's the way to respond:
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 10:47 PM by pointsoflight
The Bush administration is just trying to divert attention from his poor decisions and diminishing support. The president diverted his efforts away from the real enemy, and now Al Qaida and other terrorist networks are larger and more active than ever. Instead of staying the course in Afghanistan, backed by bipartisan and international support, Bush chose to drive us to war with Iraq. He took us there based on lies and deception even though, as he himself admits, there is no evidence that Iraq anything to do with 9/11. With over 1700 Americans now dead as a result of these poor decisions and a mismanaged war, the president is just looking for someone else to blame.

11. To rally the Republican base by reminding them of 911 AND
purposely creating a division between Democrats and Republicans. I think the idea is "We're rough and tough, ready to go after all those Iraqis, UNLIKE the Dems who are wimps". Not that it's true, of course, but Rove is being evocative of the GET 'EM attitude after 911.

12. They always trot out the 9/11 stuff when they're foundering...
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 10:56 PM by Blue Belle
Do you remember the RNC Convention?? Good lord... every speech evoked that date - that time when Bush was a great uniter (sorry... just got a little throw-up in the back of my throat). They always use 9/11 to paint Bush as strong... to paint the party as tough. But they're struggling now to keep up with the turning tide of anti-Iraq War Sentiment and tanking poll numbers. That's why they're pulling out the trite diatribe. To me, Rove was acting like a fat petulant bully who just had his ass handed to him and all he can say is, "but We're the tough ones... We're strong, they're weak!!"

It just escapes me why people can't see right through them. Where are all the "security Moms" on this... don't they recognize the acts of a desperate child?

14. One Rovian tactic that emulates the strategy of prize fighters,
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 11:04 PM by Dover
is he tries to draw punches from his opponent to wear him out. Then, when they are exhausted he lands a knockout punch.

Another Rovian tactic is to light several fires at one time, and while everyone is running around trying to put them out, they rob them blind. Distract, deny.

One more tactic; a quick rotation of people in important positions before they accumulate too much baggage and public disapproval gains momentum. They are hired, do several predetermined tasks important to the cause, and then step down.
A rolling stone gathers no moss.

15. War's over.
...all that's left is bickering over who's to blame.

The '06 campaign is going to move on two fronts -- a US 'pullout' (I expect the Return of The Secret Plan from Planet Nixon) and a full-court press to pin blame for the fiasco on the Democrats.

Someone this week did the math and decided that one, and possibly both Houses of Congress were gone unless the GOP grasped the nettle.
