Howard Dean was GREAT on The Daily Show tonight
y'all are so funny. We've got Howard's back - as long as he kills every time?!

He was great. I enjoyed it. He spoke (with pride) about the "we've got your back" campaign - and all you can do is act all disappointed.

Give 'em hell, Howard!

1. I didn't see it
but as long as Howard keeps telling the truth and keeping the Reapers on the defensive, I've got his back.

2. Darnit--We don't get that channel anymore
--I really miss the Daily Show.

I caught the good doctor's interview with Gwen Ifill on PBS though. I love the way he refuses to be distracted by irrelevancies.

As for Ms Ifill, as much as I have admired her in the past, I was disappointed that she kept returning to the issue of the "need" for Democrats to appease and placate the Repubs every time they throw a hissy-fit. Give 'em hell, Howard.

Hekate

3. he wasn't on fire - but he had a great interview
he wouldn't give an answer on Dem Iraq strategy - but what two Dems agree on that! We are a big tent party, and there are Dems on several sides of that issue.

He was funny, he made some good points. I am happy.

5. Thanks for this thread.
I thought he did fine too, even though he seemed a little nervous. He made some great points at the end for the direction he wanted to take the party.

6. I'd be nervous, too, if all my words were scrutinized by Repubs.
Poor Howard Dean, he can't even say, "The sky is blue," without the Repubs twisting it.

I haven't seen the video yet. I hope one day he can be on a show and relax and enjoy himself without all the pressure. You know what day I'm talking about ... one year after bush's impeachment :)

10. He was great...
...but I think maybe a little nervous, but not because it was an interview, but honestly, because it was an interview with Jon Stewart. A different animal. How to get important points across while not being derailed by the laughs?

14. I thought he made a great point when he said that most
thinking people get their news from TDS and the internet. That should make the MSM sit up and take notice.

16. I thought he seemed nervous when he said he should know
better than to try to keep up with Jon Stewart. I could have misread him.

11. I just watched it and he was great. He said:
>GOP lies and we're going to call them on it
>Bush didn't listen to his advisers on Iraq
>The media sucks and the best place for news is Daily Show or Internet
>GOP goes to African American churches but won't sign Voting Rights Act
>GOP has "values" not in line with the public

And more -- this is off the top of my head.

What could someone possibly be unhappy about???

15. my two cents ...
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 12:41 AM by welshTerrier2
i had read numerous other DU posts tonight on Dean's performance before actually seeing the show ... the posts were all over the map on how Dean did ... fwiw, i also saw a couple of criticisms of Stewart's performance ...

the low point of the interview, imho, was when Dean answered Stewart's question about the specifics of the Dems' Iraq policy ... Dean gave a "love thy neighbor" answer and Stewart rightly referred to it as a pillow inscription slogan or words to that effect ...

the reality is that the Democrats have their asses hanging out because the Party really is unable to differentiate its position on Iraq from bush's position ... Dean did NOT do well with this question because the Democratic Party does NOT have a credible position ... Dean was left with nothing to do but tap-dance around the question ... it's appalling to me that our country has been at war for more than two years now and those who oppose it are not represented by either one of the two major parties ...

now, having said that, i thought both Stewart and Dean did a very good job ... Dean was lively, personable and combative and Stewart asked both fair and tough questions ... i thought their interaction was both humorous and informative ...

Dean came across very well and made his points with the appropriate level of detail (i.e. not too much) for this setting ...
