17. Not all people
die in wars! People like Bush, Cheney, and their band of draft-dodgers, who support wars, but go AWOL or find some other excuse not to fight for what they say they believe in, tend to remain safe and never die in wars! Hypocrites and cowards!!

So sad, five more unfortunate families will receive the saddest news anyone can receive today! :-(

11. Link here. They were in a 7 TON Vehicle!
okay, how many explosives does it take to blow up one of them?? What kind of vehicle? We are so fucked! Bring them HOME!

:(

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8202434/

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide car bomber slammed into a 7-ton U.S. military vehicle in Fallujah on Friday, and military sources told NBC News that five female Marines were killed and 10 others wounded.

A review of casualty records indicates the attack is the single deadliest toll for female servicemembers in Iraq. Since the war started, 46 female soldiers have died in attacks or in accidents while in Iraq.

The vehicle, which had a total of 19 people on board, was ferrying members of a U.S. military civil affairs team headed to perform checkpoint searches of female Iraqi civilians, the officials said.

The team was assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force, which is based at Camp LeJeune, N.C.

No further information was immediately available.

22. Civil affairs female Marines
were probably in a Stryker
although shaped charges can take out one of these (Bradley armored fighting vehicle) or even an American/Israeli M1A1
The Bradley weighs 25 tons; the Stryker has rubber tires and weighs around 7 tons.

27. Stryker? Probably not...won't hold 15-17 people
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 10:56 AM by liam_laddie
The "infantry" variant Stryker can hold a squad of only nine troops, weighs over 20 tons. The pipe cages they've hung on them to discourage RPG's weigh about 1-1/2 tons alone, so maybe it was a big armored truck or even an M-113 APC, though I haven't seen or heard of 113's being used over there. In fact, we get almost nuthin' on the visual aspects of this eye-raq fiasco.
The Stryker is a huge boondoggle, created by Shinseki to leave his
very own "marker" on the Army, an ego trip - a really lousy way to spend several billion$ - unless you're the defense contractor. A funny thing (well not at all funny...) the Stryker was to be air-deployable in C-130's; but...it's too big and heavy. Scratch one requirement.
BTW, the Bradley is basically a "re-bodied" M-113, at least the basic engineering layout's the same. Proven chassis..."if it works, don't fix it." Forty-year-old design, so far not significantly challenged by newer, much more expensive vehicles. I'm not talking electronics, newer armor tech or multi-fuel engines. Just the raw design...

12. Damn, I knew it had to be bad
when I read the first reports and they wouldn't admit to how many casualties there were.

I wonder I Bu$h is going to let us see their caskets when they come home? Or if he's going to be forced to go to their funerals?

23. So-called conservatives will say women shouldn't be in combat.
They'll twist the story to focus on gender, not the lies that put those women there in the first place.

This is the sort of thing which makes a lot of fathers (and mothers) very queasy, though. I also wish the news releases would indicate how many are maimed, not just "wounded." I don't consider a blown-off leg or arm to be a "wound." Even if it's a technically correct word, it doesn't convey a serious enough tone.

26. Five dead at once - third time this month
This is the third time this month that five soldiers or Marines have been killed in one carbombing or IED incident. According to recent reports, the guerrillas have begun making better bombs that pierce vehicle armor. Armored vehicles are being totally obliterated.
