1. Let me harp one more time
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 08:41 AM by ewagner
Rove's lack of apology is A FAILURE OF BUSH'S LEADERSHIP .

Bush* is the president (technically) and HE AND HE ALONE is responsible for setting the tone.

If he doesn't discipline his own staff, THEN BUSH IS A WEAK LEADER!!!!!

politically it's sound: We either get the apology or Bush is exposed/tagged/framed as a weak leader....political win/win.

sorry...just had to harp on the riff again....

2. Bush is weak and stupid. Rove was sent out to deliver that message
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 08:56 AM by Democrat 4 Ever
exactly as written. Before he even left the White House it was vetted in its entirety before one word was uttered. It said exactly what they wanted to say, create the ensuing "uproar" and let Rove create cover for the Chimp. We need to start reminding everyone who will listen - these were not off the cuff remarks. They were written, edited and tweaked by White House speechwriters for maximum media effect. Rove knew what he was going to say and he was going for the outrage. So now people are now talking about something besides any of the serious issues. And by not apologizing they are getting their 15 minute outrage into 20 news cycle reports over the next week.

Do I think we let it slide by, nope. We need to be screaming about their hypocrisy every minute of every day. We are just too meek and mild about expressing outrage at their stunts. And they are stunts performed for the "trained" money in the Oval Office.

5. It wont be preceived that way
You're right... Bush is truly weak... but the perception is that they're strong.... because they don't back down. Wrong or Right.

The perception is that they stand by what they believe and don't flip-flop.

Perception is what its all about!

6. I agree Bush is a weak leader - just not that the right will think so.
I agree that Rove won't apologize.

I don't however think, based on the past 4+ years, that many Americans really are going to care whether Bush makes him apologize or not. The right confuses bullying tactics and tough language with strength and competence. I don't think they've learned yet, sadly. Even more sadly, I don't think they're interested in learning, or in knowing the truth, just in feeling good about themselves - and Bush seems to do that for them. Go figure.

4. I agree, he won't
The repukes will rally around Rove, or at least be united in his defense. Then they will exploit the comparison: Republicans are strong and united. Dems are weak and divided.
Repukes can point to Durbin and Dean as examples. Durbin tells the truth, tries to stand fast in the face of solid repuke condemnation, then is betrayed by the Democratic Mayor of Chicago. Durbin can't afford a pissin' contest with maybe the most powerful political leader in a solidly blue state. So, he apologies. The apology may not been all that strong, but the perception is that he did, and that's what counts. Dean tells the truth, with bark on. For his troubles, he gets treated like he has STDs. Biden, Edwards, Pelosi, Richardson, even Barney Frank, found words to blast the elected head of the DNC.
A window into how this will play out is the Sunday talking head shows. Senator McCain probably won't be on this week, since he was on last week. I will be interested in how little Staphlocaccus treats the issue. He is a high profile member of the Vichy Dems that make up the Democratic establishment inside the beltway.
