War Crime happening now: action needed
I found this from Dahr Jamail. It's from an interview with a Turkish journal:

http://dahrjamailiraq.com/weblog/archives/dispatches/000256.php#more

“Near the city of Buhrez, 5 kilometers south of Baquba, two Humvess of American soldiers were destroyed recently. American and Iraqi soldiers came to the city afterwards and cut all the phones, cut the water, cut medicine from arriving in the city and told them that until the people of the city bring the “terrorists” to them, the embargo will continue.”

The embargo has been in place now for one week now, and he continued:

“The Americans still won’t anyone or any medicines and supplies into Buhrez, nor will they allow any people in or out. Even the Al-Sadr followers who organized some help for the people in the city (water, food, medicine) are not being allowed into the city. Even journalists cannot enter to publish the news, and the situation there is so bad. The Americans keep asking for the people in the city to bring them the persons who were in charge of destroying the two Humvees on the other side of the city, but of course the people in the city don’t know who carried out the attack.”

People like Edelman don’t want people to know about the recent US attacks in Al-Qa’im and Haditha either. Attacks that Iraqis are describing as just as bad as the massacre of Fallujah.

----
Collective punishment is a war crime.

I'm not a US citizen but if I were I would be contacting my representatives to find out what the hell is going on. Please do it for me....

Let's use the power of the internet to defend these poor Iraqis.

4. Were US soldiers killed when the Humvees were attacked?
I'm not justifing a war-crime in progress, but I'd like some context. (Other than the context of US soldiers being in Iraq in the first place due to a pack of lies.)

8. I just found it minutes ago
In fact I've only just had time to realise that I need to correct that it doesn't come from an interview with a Turkish journalist but Dahr Jamail's blog report of the interview.

I don't think we're going to get confirmation of this story from any other source but on the precautionary priniciple we ought to be making a noise.

Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 12:14 PM by Tinoire
One of the few unembedded courageous journalists we have out there. I value his writings very much.

Very nice man in person too.

==
Dahr Jamail was weary of the overall failure of the US media to accurately report on the realities of the war in Iraq for the Iraqi people and US soldiers, thus he went to Iraq to report on the war himself. His dispatches were quickly recognized as an important media resource and he is now writing for the Inter Press Service, The NewStandard, the Global Resistance Network and many other outlets. His reports have also been published with The Nation, The Sunday Herald and Islam Online, to name just a few. Dahr's dispatches and hard news stories have been translated into Polish, German, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, Indonesian, French, Chinese and Arabic. On the radio, Dahr is a special correspondent for Flashpoints and reports for the BBC, Democracy Now!, and numerous other stations around the globe. Dahr has spent a total of 8 months in occupied Iraq as one of only a few independent US journalists in the country. Dahr uses the DahrJamailIraq.com website and his popular mailing list to disseminate his dispatches.

Unembedded: An Interview With Dahr Jamail
by Charles Shaw

Through the eyes of Dahr Jamail
April 27th, 2005
Hostile Information
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

Wednesday 27 April 2005

In this mean and meager time of pre-packaged, pre-processed, corporate-controlled infotainment that passes itself off as ‘news, it is a rare and refreshing experience to see and hear a true journalist reporting the facts. I was privileged on Monday night to share a stage in Boston with Dahr Jamail, the intrepid reporter who could not stomach the biased non-news coming out of Iraq after the invasion, and went over there to see and report on what was happening himself.

Jamail, an unassuming spectacled man in his mid-30s, spoke in a calm and precise manner on what he had seen while in Iraq. His words carried the weight of witness, but more devastating than what he said was what he showed the crowd. For an hour, Jamail flashed photograph after photograph from Iraq on a large screen. It is one thing to hear the truth. It is another again to see it, in slide after slide, through the eyes of a man who was there and returned to tell the tale.

Jamail’s photo essay described the current situation in the starkest of terms. Buildings that had been bombed out during the invasion remain today blasted and unusable piles of rubble. One photo showed a blown-out supermarket with a collapsed roof. He took the picture in 2003, but showed it on Monday night because it looks the same today as it did when the bomb first fell. There are many times many such damaged buildings. The ones that remain standing are often pockmarked from machine gun fire.

(snip)

'Horror' is not a strong enough word to describe what Dahr Jamail showed us on Monday night, what he saw with his own eyes, what almost no American has been allowed to see because 'Hostile Information' is not permitted in George Bush's America.

16. this kind of thing has been a consistent practice, I think
from the start of the invasion: cutting off water and electricity from civilian populations, generally disregarding any and all rules of engagement...ummm, torturing prisoners, attacking civilians, and so on and on and on...

The aggressive invasion and occupation of Iraq was/is a war crime.

The conduct of some of the occupiers constitutes a great many war crimes.

The administration that instigated this complete disaster and continues to set policy from on high is guilty of massive war crimes.

Jamail has done a hell of a job documenting these things....

7. Do you read Turkish because I was just looking up the paper
and one of the hits I got was a translation of an article on the Democratic Presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche speaking in Turkey in 2003. That is enough to make me leary of anything any paper would say about anything including the weather.

11. It's not from the Turkish paper
It's from Dahr Jamail, an independent journalist who has been reporting from Iraq.

He is reporting an email he received from a source inside the city.

19. This is indeed a war crime. The people are between a rock and a hard place
Traitors are beheaded. Here's an example:

Gunmen take over Ramadi in Iraq
June 17, 2005 (Guardian News Service):Insurgentshave taken over much of the Iraqi city of Ramadi and used it to launch attacks against US forces while terrorising the population with public beheadings.

A huge bomb killed five American marines yesterday and showered body parts onto rooftops, fuelling suspicion that new armour-piercing technology was being developed and tested in Ramadi.

...A man described as an Egyptian spy was beheaded and his body dumped on a busy shopping street. Warned by the killers to leave it for five days, shoppers pretended not to notice the figure in the brown robe, its head resting on its back.

Four days ago two suspected Shia militiamen were beheaded in the marketplace in full view of traders, said a senior police officer who asked not to be identified. Two boys played football with one of the heads, he added.

...Residents said that in reprisal for their losses US troops fired grenades at a minibus as it crossed the bridge at 6am yesterday.

Eight girls and women died and a Jordanian man was injured, said hospital staff. It was not possibly to verify the account.

Where's the video?

I read of video of Fallujah after the horrible siege but have never seen a link to it.

Making the video available would certainly help Jamail gain credibility in the MSM.

27. If this is true, then it is more evidence of war crimes as policy
What is being described as happening in Buhrez is a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Of that, there can be no doubt.

If this was instigated in the field by US commanders, then they are responsible. They should be relieved of command and made to face a court martial. However, I doubt that is the case. Rather, such war crimes as this appears to be Bush regime policy. The fact that Mr. Edelman, the US Ambassador to Turkey, is working to cover up the atrocity is disturbing to say the least and indicative that this is a matter of regime policy, not of any commander in the field being a bad apple. In that event, I am not the least bit interested in prosecuting the field commanders. There are bigger fish to fry.

Those at the top who are responsible for this policy should be impeached and removed from office and all regime officials who plan or implement this policy should be indicted and prosecuted under the War Crimes Act of 1996; if the federal government is unable or unwilling to prosecute, then an international tribunal should be convened for the purpose.

Mr. Edelman is a small fry in this scheme. Nevertheless, the attempts to shield war criminals, whether the crimes were instigated by commanders in the field or as a matter of policy, is something that itself should be investigated. If this is regime policy, then Ambassador Edelman should be charged and tired as a war criminal.
