Prediction: Bush sends another 100,000 troops to Iraq in December
If they have not done so already, I expect that the generals in Iraq will soon ask Bush for more troops to quash the "insurgency" in Iraq.

What I predict he'll do is send another 100,000 forces into Iraq (and basically stop-loss everyone; the draft will be next year or in 2007). The spin will be we are on the verge of victory, but this buildup is needed to finish the job. To calm concern from Congress he will announce the build up in troops as part of a time table for "winning" in Iraq. He'll claim that we'll start drawing down at the end of 2006 and be out by early 2009. Of course, that won't materialize, but it will fend of a rebellion in Congress--for now.

1. Where will he get them?
Where will 100,000 soldiers come from? Do you mean 'new' soldiers, or keeping the ones there there?

That SOB will set up the draft and leave it for the next (Democratic) President.

Jesus.

10. Wes Clark mentioned rotating in the ones from Europe
that are stationed and haven't been to Iraq yet. He said it made sense with the cold war over that these soldiers could help hold over the Iraq offensive. Then, in six months, we're screwed.

5. As I said, he could stop-loss everybody
Just say that all enlistments are extended for the "duration of the conflict".

The draft will come next. He needs to put on a dog and pony show to make it look like he really tried everything before resorting to conscription.

6. I still think 100,000 is not possible
he could escalate things though.

I see the repukes in congress getting cold feet with the Iraq disaster, leading up to the 2006 elections.

4. My Prediction: Total Opposite
Troops getting out of Iraq in October won't get replaced. Everyone will talk about "drawdown" to allow the Iraqis to "take control of their government". They'll start saying that the Iraqis are trained and American forces are a distraction so mission accomplished, we can "draw down" (not "withdraw", that's not manly as George Carlin puts it).

This frees up troops for a trip next door to Iran or Syria.

9. Mark My Words People
DRAWDOWN

That's the word. They're already using it.

draw·down (drô'doun')
n.

The act or process of getting the fuck out of your quagmire as fast as you can before the situation explodes even worse, without using the term 'withdraw' or 'pulling out'.

Perhaps. I'm sure many people will protest and resist.

But many impresionable young people, who know or care little about politics, will be scooped up by the draft and forced into this war. They will simply go because the government says they have to go and they will be afraid of everyone around them calling them a coward if they think of dodging the draft.
