Remember the oft-stated "pockets of resistance remain"?
Now you can show your conservative acquaintances where those "pockets of resistance" are.

Coalition Fatalities By Location Across Time

Stunning depiction.

3. Rumsfeld was right!
It appears to be the area around Tikrit. Somewhat south, and west, and north, and east of there. For hundreds of miles.

But at least Lil George thinks quagmires are funny.

6. True...there are more "pockets" there than in a pallet
of painter pants. :(

8. Pockets of resistance ......
In an early 1968 speech, Eugene McCarthy told an audience at the Alpine Club in Manchester:

"In 1963, we were told we were winning the war. In 1964, we were told we were winning the war. In 1964, we were told the corner was being turned. In 1965, we were told the enemy was being brought to its knees. In 1966, in 1967, and now again in 1968, we hear the same hollow claims of programs and victory. For the fact is that the enemy is bolder than ever, while we must steadily increase our own commitment. The democratic Party in 1964 promised 'no wider war.' Yet the war is getting wider every month. Only a few months ago we were told that sixty-five per cent of the population was secure. Now we know that even the American Embassy is not secure.."

12. I thought it fit.
I think that 2006 is going to look a lot like 1968, although obviously there will not be a presidential election. But in terms of historic significance, I think we are rapidly moving into a time that will long be remembered as shifting the direction the country was headed in.

9. The pockets seem to form an unexpectedly Iraq-shaped pattern
Simulated MTP appearance tomorrow with VP Crashcart: "Ummm...Ummmm...If PBS did not have a liberal bias, and we could just ban flag burning, none of this would have happened. Where the f*ck is that Michael Jackson trial footage?"
