Using SS surplus to create SS accounts???
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 05:23 PM by cynatnite
Why doesn't that make any sense to me?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/usatoday/20050623/pl_usatoday/gopplanusesurplusonaccounts

Republicans in Congress are uniting behind a plan that would use current Social Security surpluses to create individual investment accounts favored by President Bush. But the plan would not address Bush's goal of ensuring the system's long-term solvency.

1. Because it's just a way for the Mob to steal our pension funds?
Though I thought that Bush had said the SS surplus didn't actually exist -- it was "just a bunch of IOUs"?

5. Yes...
Because there is no Social Security Surplus, we must spend the surplus to create private accounts to protect seniors from when the surplus runs out.

Clear?

6. No doubt the hidden intent here is to drain off...
...the so-called "surplus" (which is not a "real" surplus at all because it's purpose is to cover future obligations). Once that is done, the system will indeed be in dire financial crisis, probably even true bankruptcy. The Christofascists (who want to inflict maximum suffering on the poor) and the monopolists (who want to turn all social services into profit centers) will then be able to have their way with Social Security, imposing their schemes behind claims of "see, we told you so." In other words, this is vicious and sneaky Bush political "stratigery" multiplied to the Nth power.

Once again, don't ever imagine Bush is stupid: he is in fact the most formidable domestic enemy American liberty has ever faced. His "stupid" disguise -- and that is precisely what it is -- is merely application of the Claudian example to modern politics, all the better to confuse and ultimately rout BushCo opponents. (For those who don't know their ancient history, Claudius is the Roman emperor who convinced everyone he was a drooling cretin -- but then, once in power, not only conquered Britain but radically expanded the authority of the imperial bureaucracy over the entire empire.)

9. How does this address the issue of long term SS insolvency?
It doesn't. Why should we consider privatizing SS? Because it addresses the long term issue of SS insolvency. Yep makes lots of sense now. Republican sense anyways.

10. First, STOP CALLING IT A SURPLUS!!!! That is BushSpeak, It's NOT...
...A Surplus! It's what we Democrats MUST continue to call it the Social Security TRUST FUND." That might not be 100% true either, but those are OUR words, do NOT surrender your language to the RW Conspiracy.
