An earlier report said only two Marines had been killed, with three Marines and a sailor among those unaccounted for in the attack. The female victims were the first women in the Marine Corps to die since the Iraq war began.

FALLUJAH CONVOY ATTACK UPDATE

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – Two Marines assigned to II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) were killed when their convoy came under attack June 23 in Fallujah. One Marine was killed by a suicide vehicle borne improvised explosive device. The other Marine was killed by small arms fire immediately after the car bomb attack.

Thirteen Marines were wounded in the incident.

Three Marines and a Sailor believed to be in the vehicle are currently listed as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown pending positive identification. Further information will be released when their status is confirmed.

The Marines were enroute to Camp Fallujah after working at entry control points in the city of Fallujah.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
