New Chuck Hagel info
I found this on BradBlog's open thread for his show now and someone posted this info on Hagel!

Some additional facts to Nonbeliever's #160 on Hagel: (snip from ms in la's book "Who's Counting"

...Senator Chuck Hagel, former E S & S Chairman (AIS at the time, just prior to the buyout), was running the company in 1995 that would count his votes in his amazing surprise victory in 1996 - the first Republican Senate winner in Nebraska in 24 years! Local papers called it a “stunning upset.” It was his first race for the Senate; he had been living out of state for 20 years, and was running against Nebraska’s popular former Governor, Ben Nelson. Nelson was leading in the polls by 65% to 18%, yet Hagel came from behind and won at 56%.

Also someone posted how a daughter of Kerry's was being threatned with her life right after the election.

1. Yeah - I don't trust Hagel at all because of that election
No matter what he's saying now. He's got his eye on the presidency.

3. Of course
He was snubbed the VP slot by Cheney. He probably wants to get revenge and support. He's also on the foreign relations committe and isn't he apart of Bilderberg?

4. Of course he does.
No doubt about that. But some people are a lot more dangerous than he is.

That's very dangerous.

18. Because you believe there is a republican
that will not try to steal the election if allowed?

Whoever it is, ESS, Diebold and Sequoia will still be in the loop (even if Hagel decided suddenly that he did not want to run and that he was not interested in having the Republicans win anyway). And in this case, I prefer a competent republican to an incompetent one (not that I like the idea that a republican wins, far from it).

We better do our job and pressure Congress to make laws that protect elections, inform the public of the risk, .....

The problem is not Hagel or any individual by itself (we could have corrupted Democrats doing the same thing). The problems are the laws and we need to start s grassroot movement to change them.

2. Nothing new
This info has been known since 1996.

I am not sure why you are so afraid of Hagel. He will never make it thru the primaries, because he is very disliked by the Republican base.

I am a lot more afraid of Allen: both able to win the primary and articulate enough to look likeable if given a good script for the GE. All he needs is to have the right people behind him and he does at this point.

has the machine's. Look at his first "race." He was BIG time losing and then he came out on top? Uh huh.

6. No more
If they decide he is not the right guy, Diebold and Co will not go with him. ESS is only a small portion of the BBV and I do not know to what point he still control them 10 years later.

This said, if we must have a republican as president, he is better than most.

I still think Allen is more dangerous because he is a blank slate on which the Republican masters can apply what they want.

9. Mass, you have your facts wrong. ES&S is the largest voting machine

company, larger than Diebold and Sequoia.

Look at ecotalk.org if you want more information on the companies.

16. A few facts on the 96 election in NE
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 10:57 PM by Mass
I am sure that the ESS machines are not better than others and may be Hagel cheated, but it is also clear that Nelson was seen losing ground in the polls in October 96 due to the money spent by Republicans.

The 65% to 18% polls were at the beginning of the campaign, before Hagel had started campaigning for Senate.

At the end of campaign, polls were showing Hagel and Nelson statistically tied.

I dont care particularly about Hagel, but I find tiring that people cannot focus on important things. We need paper trace for voting machines. That should be evident in any case, but stretching the case does not help, on the contrary. When will we learn.

http://www.s-t.com/daily/11-96/11-03-96/m01wn188.htm

The AP survey showed more than a dozen Senate races remain extremely close, but Republicans, boosted by the late, heavy spending spree by the party, are on the move. In Iowa, the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee has spent at least $130,000 since the middle of last week to aid Republican challenger Jim Lightfoot. In Nebraska, Republicans reported spending $310,000 since Oct. 23 against Democratic Gov. Ben Nelson in his Senate race. At least one poll shows Gov. Nelson has surrendered his lead over Republican Chuck Hagel, with the race now a statistical tie.

7. He is also an articulate and great guy
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 09:56 PM by Mass
with a compelling personnal story. Not being from Nebraska, I do not know what the story is, but if you give me Nelson vs Hagel, my choice will be quickly made, and it will not be Nelson.

8. please, please, let it be Allen....he'd self-destruct in an instant
that's the problem...he's SUCH a fatheaded loser that there's no way he'll make it through the nomination process.

I'll be very surprised if he makes it into the debates

he's MUCH stupider, less savvy than the chimp, and his only connections stem from the fact that he's the son of a freaking FOOTball coach

plus, he's got a VERY racist incident in his background

11. I am afraid a lot of people understimate him
I heard him speak a few times when he has a good script. He is impressive. Obviously, he needs the script, but I am not as optimistic as you are.

On the contrary, he is exactly as Bush, except he is able to speak if you give him a good speech, which Bush is not.

He is the one I dread, knowing how the American voters react.

We certainly appreciate it. And yes, I did hear that Kerry's daughter was threatened after the election. Any idea who was threatening her?
