Report: U.S. secretly met with insurgents

- - - - - - - - - - - -

June 26, 2005 | LONDON (AP) -- U.S. officials held secret talks in Iraq with the commanders of several Iraqi insurgent groups recently in an attempt to open a dialogue with them, a British newspaper reported Sunday.

The commanders "apparently came face to face" with four American officials during meetings on June 3 and June 13 at a summer villa near Balad, about 25 miles north of Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, according to The Sunday Times.

The Sunday Times said neither the Iraqi government nor U.S. officials in Baghdad would confirm its report about the talks.

Military officials in Baghdad did not immediately respond to a request by The Associated Press for comment on the Times article early Sunday morning.

2. And what was it that "liberals" would do again?
And will anyone outside of Salon report this?

Where's that media list?

Of course, Keith Olbermann will do it. I :loveya: him!

3. What a hypocrite. He blasted Dems for wanting to do the very thing
he actually did (and did in secret, so as not to appear "soft.") We need to get these toadies out of our government!

7. Did they offer them therapy?
I would imagine that it is almost too late for this regime to practice diplomacy.
:freak:

11. Welcome.
Welcome to DU, Beegirl16.

And BTW, concerning the orig. topic, this is what psychologists call "projection", where someone accuses others of doing what they themselves are guilty of. Karl Rove, you are one sick/evil mofo.

9. This is no different than the Reagan campaign meeting with the Iranian
government (remember Ayatollah Khomeini?) before the Nov. 1980 presidential election notwithstanding that its citizens rioted, took over the American embassy, and held ca. 440 Americans as hostages the year before. And then later the Reagan administration (thanks to the above referenced mission) met again with "terrorists" to sell them military hardware to use against Iraq and then used the profits thereof to fund the war against the enemies of capitalism, freedom, and democracy in San Salvador (remember Daniel Noriega?).

Moral: Some terrorists are more "terrifying" than other terrorists (apologies to George Orwell for the paraphrasing).

10. To put it in date perspective.....
June 3 - Bush strategists meet with the enemy.

Ten days later -

June 13 - Bush strategists meet with the enemy.

Nine days later -

June 22 - Bush strategist attacks Democrats -calls them liberals - says they saw the savagery of 9/11 and "... wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy."

Any Bush supporter can wrap their head around the duplicity.

Tell your Bush supporter friends that preparing indictments would have been exactly right - the attack was a crime and should have been carried out in the courts just as the first WTC attack was - and tell them how we may not have found Iraqi involvement evidence.

Tell them how we never go after the biggies - China, USSR - they are to trade with - but we love going after little ones Cuba, Vietnam, Panama, Grenada, Chechnya, Nicaragua, Haiti, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Iraq.

Well, I'm for peace in Iraq even if Bushitas and pnacers initiate it.

Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called Children of God.
